thebritishbulldog
I can connect, yes, but with NAT3. I've tried setting up my router settings, but it's being really, really unresponsive. I have no idea what it is, but I type all the info (ports etc) into the text fields, press okay but it says I haven't filled in a vital field (which I know I have), and it doesn't work! No idea what I can do... that's a f*cker. can you screenshot me the NAT rule page? Here's the screenshot of the NAT Rule page. As you can see I've managed to put the first one in, but the others just won't seem to save -- maybe it times out or something? http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1mq1.png And, when I click add, here's the window that opens: http://img399.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture2jc1.png A bit annoying that I finally found the DSN options and this happens. Just checking -- doing this should mean I get a NAT 2 setting? Even with the patch my GTA IV online is patchy... Okay Arthur, what if I told you I have found a port forwarding guide for your exact router for the PS3 including all ports and stuff?! http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...Type_3_to_2.htm At the top of the guide is a field you need to fill (it says "do not skip this step") in which you put in your PS3 static IP: 10.0.0.50 right? (The page will then dynamically tell you what information you need to fill in in the NAT rule wizard.) Follow that guide and it should work. As you can see, I've managed to do the port 80 right now, so now I just have to hope my program will let me do the rest! Thanks for all your help, I guess it's down to me now. arthurmitchell
You've got something to look forward to then! I've had it for around a week, just 30% into the game. Was planning on playing some more today, but I spent the majority of my time trying to fix my internet connection, which I'll have to attempt to finish off tomorrow. It's not urgent, though, there's more than enough to do in Liberty City on your own.
arthurmitchell
Right. Managed to open up all the ports on my router using that very useful guide, followed all the instructions.... but still getting a NAT 3 setting and can't get onto any multiplayer! Any ideas? Managed to open up all the ports on my router using that very useful guide, followed all the instructions.... but still getting a NAT 3 setting and can't get onto any multiplayer! Any ideas? All I can think is that the wireless router has a firewall in it that is getting in the way. Just to test the theory, try your ethenet cable straight from the Zoom to your PS3 and turn off the wireless router.
arthurmitchell
I'll see if I can find a spare ethernet cable around -- that might be my only option. That is unless I can somehow turn off the wireless access point firewall? Is that a possibility?
thebritishbulldog
I'll see if I can find a spare ethernet cable around -- that might be my only option. That is unless I can somehow turn off the wireless access point firewall? Is that a possibility? yeah you can do anything to the wireless access point if you can login to it. What I am suggesting is to test whether it is the problem by taking it out of the equation before f*cking with it. If everything is fine when it isn't there then we KNOW its something to do with it. Otherwise we are just guessing. Just use your PC cable to test it. I'm not suggesting a permanent arrangement just a bit of diagnosis. arthurmitchell
Okay, I'll give it a shot. The PS3 itself is in a different room to the computer, so I'll need to have a look around to see if I can find a cable long enough!
ratphour
The WAP he has, has a firewall .. all the port forwarding he did on the zoom, he will have to do on the Linksys .. Arthur, are you able to get into the Linksys browser config at all?
arthurmitchell
I'm not entirely sure how to. Is it just a case of typing in an IP or is a little more difficult for a WAP? Any help you can lend I'd very much appreciate it!
ratphour
for linksys, to get to the browser config you have to go to: http://192.168.1.1/ .. BUT, you need to do that from a computer that is hooked up to the linksys, like a wireless laptop, i'm unsure if the PS3 web browser will let you do it.. Once you get into that browser config, you can disable the firewall. Login is: Admin Password is: password

Is there any other way to access the settings, or at least just turn off the firewall somehow? EDIT: The IP of the WAP? I'm not sure, would that be a 10.0.0. something IP? How would I find that out? ratphour
Through the ZOOM router, you should be able to check all attached devices, and it should show a IP address it assigned for the Linksys WAP
ratphour
Also, when you hooked up the linksys, did you actually INSTALL it? Or did you just plug it in to the zoom?
arthurmitchell
I'm not sure where the Linksys IP would be within the zoom - lots of complicated lists and it doesn't say which device is assigned which IP. And, I did install the Linksys using the supplied CD when I connected it to the network.

thebritishbulldog
The wireless router shouldn't need any port forwarding if it is in Access Point mode. edit: If the wireless router is in AP mode then I think you can only access it by temporarily assigning a static ip address to your Laptop in its range: In this case 192.168.1.2 on your laptop to access the wireless router at 192.168.1.1. Once you have made sure the wireless router is in AP mode (firewall off - WPa on) then you can change your ip back to DHCP. arthurmitchell
Okay then. So, I'm on a mac laptop - you said assigning a static IP with Macs is easy. Any ideas how I could do this on my macbook? And, once I've done that, how do I use that info to access the wireless router? Sorry if it's obvious, I just need a little more explaining for it to make sense! System Pref > Network > Airport > Advanced > Tcp/IP > Configure IPv4 "Manually" (drop down option) IP: 192.168.1.2 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Router.192.168.1.1 Click Apply. Open Safari and goto: 192.168.1.1 Should open the wireless router login........ hopefully Damn man you are making me work!!
arthurmitchell
I did that... but no luck. I simply couldn't access the internet at all, let alone access the WAP. Can't think of what to do at all, as you say 192.168.1.1 is supposed to open up the settings, but I simply get "Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.1.1/” because it could not connect to the server “192.168.1.1”.". Sorry again for my complete lack of technical know-how around this topic.

BritishBulldog: Perhaps having him set up the WAP as a DMZ, then through the WAP, set the PS3 as a DMZ, or just completely disable the firewall on the WAP.. Take into affect here, the WAP is basically a router, and the Zoom ADSL modem is a router.. The way i did it with my sisters setup was basically, go from the ADSL modem/router to the WAP, from the WAP I hardwired the main computer, that was the only way I could get it to work, and it took some head scratching.. Now she has internet on her computer, Wireless with her Wii and PS3, and my neice can use the PSP as wireless.. I had to set up her ADSL modem/router to let the WAP have full access with no restrictions.. Then with the WAP I use the firewall, and the PS3 is a DMZ with NAT 2 and UPnP, and the Wii with the correct port forwarding, and the PSP with the correct port forwarding, and it works perfect. blackdisney
Im having a problem with my computer. DSL broadband tends to disconnect and drags where i think the signal doesnt connect all the way which makes me disconnect it then reconnects it. I have Earthlink.. my PS3 connected once but the next time i tried it it didnt work it kept saying it was a DNS error..everything on my PS3 connections such as IP address,Address settings, default router, subnet mask, primary and secondary DNS is automatic including the MTU and the proxy server says do not use and UPnP is enabled. im not really that computer literate. so i really dont know why i cant connect my PS3 to the DSL without it disconnecting and dragging. Any advise?

loseruser
Enabling upnp completely crashes my router and cause a constant drop every thirty seconds. I disabled it just to be able to use my PS3 online at all. Now I have to enable it just to play a whole 15 seconds of gta4 multiplayer before I get dropped again? f*ck that.
