arthurmitchell
To give the PS3 a static address do you do that from the PS3 itself, or from the router? I've tried this before and it's what gave me the DSN errors, because I couldn't find any DSN network server IPs. Then, I presume the NAT rules are set up from the last page I posted up? EDIT: Strange. The interface must have it somewhere. Is there any other name for UPnP it could have used. And, I haven't tried the PS3 yet because I haven't really changed anything, but I'll give it a go.
arthurmitchell
Just tested on the PS3. Still saying UPnP Not available and I'm on NAT type 3.

Both ways end up with the same result: the PS3 has a static IP. Setting up the options on the PS3 manually as you have tried can cause issues if you don't know where to find things like DNS server IPs and the like. What are your options under "LAN"? I wish I could find a manual for this fricking router. We could has this sorted in no time.
arthurmitchell
It was the DSN that was my problem last time -- it showed up as being 10.0.0.2, and when I set that up I couldn't connect. Under LAN, here's my options: http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture4st2.png
arthurmitchell
Just found a manual on the installation CD for the router. It has a section on uPnP, saying it's automatically enabled on the router, and anything plugged in should make the needed configurations. Is the problem coming from the fact the PS3 isn't actually plugged into the router, and the wireless access point is acting as an intermediate? arthurmitchell
But, if UPnP doesn't work, isn't it possible to do it some other way? I mean, I probably could connect it via ethernet, but ideally I'd like it to use my wireless access point somehow.

Anyway looks like port forwarding is the answer. Could you tell me what is under "DNS"?
arthurmitchell
So, doing it wirelessly is possible, just takes a bit more maneuvering? Under the DNS tab is this: http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture5cg7.png

Under the DNS tab is this: http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture5cg7.png yeah its possible, its just a pain: 1. Give your PS3 the Static Ip address 10.0.0.100 (Outside of the DHCP range so it sticks) 2. Gateway address should be the router address (10.0.02???) 3. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 4. DNS should be 10.0.02 (???) Go into your router > NAT and set some rules: TCP: 80, 443, 5223 UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658 forwarding to 10.0.0.100 It should work unless the DNS is wrong which I think it is. Somewhere on your router, there will be a status page detailing the router Ip address, subnet mask and DNs settings, if you can find those DNS settings that would be great. arthurmitchell
Okay, so the first 4 points are on the PS3 console itself? Under my WAN settings I have an IP and a gateway IP. It's the DNS that I have no idea about. I tried to 10.0.0.2 IP before and I got a DNS error, so I'm not sure that's correct as it's purely an internal IP address. I think you might need to ask your ISP what DNS servers to use as your stupid router doesn't seem to tell you what they are!!!
arthurmitchell
I might attach the console using an ethernet cable rather than do all this wireless IP stuff. With the UPnP it should just plug in and play without a problem (hopefully making it NAT 2 along the way...?)
thebritishbulldog
yes, if that's what you want. Perhaps until you find a better guide to port forwarding using your particular router.

arthurmitchell
I'd ideally like to use the router, but I have no idea about DSN settings, or what the DSN might be. Do you know if this patch will help in my situation (not being able to connect using NAT 3)? I can connect flawlessly to Resistance online, so I'm not sure what the GTA situation is. arthurmitchell
1. Give your PS3 the Static Ip address 10.0.0.100 (Outside of the DHCP range so it sticks) Okay, so I set up the IP with an internal IP (eg 10.0.0.100), not an external one? 2. Gateway address should be the router address (10.0.02???) I believe I can find that through my PC 4. DNS should be 10.0.02 (???) I've found a list of common DNS server IPs for my provider (Orange -- previously Wanadoo), so I'm going to try them out. Go into your router > NAT and set some rules: TCP: 80, 443, 5223 UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658 forwarding to 10.0.0.100 That seems straightforward. Where do I put these numbers (80 443....) into? arthurmitchell
And, I've done it! I've set my PS3 up with the static IP of 10.0.0.50 (I think -- I manually configured the IP settings on the PS3, is this the right way to go about it?). Now, changing things on my router should mean I get NAT 2?

Now, changing things on my router should mean I get NAT 2? YES! 10.0.0.50 is fine. Anything outside the standard DHCP range will work. So you can connect to PSN already, just with NAT 3? If so we are nearly there. You now need to setup the NAT rules in your router. We found those earlier under that Nat drop down menu. You'll see where you need to put them. If not I'll be on later if you need anymore help.
arthurmitchell
I can connect, yes, but with NAT3. I've tried setting up my router settings, but it's being really, really unresponsive. I have no idea what it is, but I type all the info (ports etc) into the text fields, press okay but it says I haven't filled in a vital field (which I know I have), and it doesn't work! No idea what I can do...
DanID
sorry to barge the party, but I've just tried to play a little multiplayer (this is prior and after patch 1.01) I get the lost connection report too, but I'm using a ethernet cable rather than wireless. My route was supplied by my ISP and has no IP addy printed on the usual assortment of stickers (its a Danish ISP, and whilst cheap and fast, they're pretty useless at anything more advances than giving you quick access to porn) anyway, at this present time I'd prefer to assume its a PS3 setup issue, in that I need to do this whole making the PS3 use this DHCP mode. Now, 1. I'm a bit of a technaphobe. Not in that I can't do things, more that I'm worried about doing them and screwing sh*t up. 2. I've owned a PS3 for all of 4 days now, so everything is a bit dutch to me. All I've done is set up an mp account and play GTA4 so far (oh, and install patches of course) so, for a PS3 virgin, and someone who's petrified of touching stuff without a concise list of instructions, where do I need to look in the PS3 sub menu's to get it to do this DHCP business? thanks for any replys. There should be an option in your PS3 network settings to automatically find the IP address (using DHCP). I don't own one yet so I can't tell you where exactly it is. The manual should tell you though. You should also turn on UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) so you hopefully avoid the issues arthur is having. thebritishbulldog
Guys, I'm wondering if your two issues are related. I wish I had my PS3 (get it in about 10 days) as I could categorically tell you what the problem is. I think you both need to open the ports on your router that I pasted earlier in the thread, but as we have already seen tin this thread, routers vary wildly with how they approach the exact same thing! But it could be a PSN issue or it could be a Gamespy server issue. I feel like I'm kinda pissing in the wind. I wish I could help more

As you can see I've managed to put the first one in, but the others just won't seem to save -- maybe it times out or something? http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1mq1.png And, when I click add, here's the window that opens: http://img399.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture2jc1.png A bit annoying that I finally found the DSN options and this happens. I've seen the same complaint/problem on several other forums. Unfortunately I have no detaisl of how to access my router (i.e. IP to dial in) and I have to pay to ring my ISP (yes, you heard me straight. In return for cheaper services in denmark, you can opt out for free customer service, such as in banks and isp's etc. Makes it 50% cheaper) i assume however they're all standard with the brands, and the login is always admin, and the password is standard for the brands? The one they gave me is a ZyXEL Prestige 2000. I'll have a go with the ps3 settings later and see if it helps.
