Sorry for bumping this topic, but seeing as this is the ONLY program that can open GTA IV's files, is there any updates about when it will be ready to release at all?

It's being worked on. Updates isn't that neccesary for a program, when it's released, it's released. Give them time to research and crack the codes. updates is sometimes shown at Good's OpenIV website http://openiv.sannybuilder.com/

OpenIV will be release (to Public) in november 2008.

 

and OpenIV not the ONLY programm, also exist SparkIV from aru.

 

And i would really appreciate if source code will be available too.

no. never. OpenIV source code never will be available for public.

The general consensus is to wait for the IV PC release. Once any additional changes to the file formats are known, people will release their tools, format descriptions, tutorials, all the fun stuff. smile.gif

The reason they are documenting file formats, etc. now is so that when the PC version comes they will already have the foundations for modding the game; that's assuming the PC version is similar to the console, I doubt there will be any major changes.

Yup. XP, do you really think that in PC version, the RPF and IMG files will be replaced with RARs, and the textures and the models will be stored in the PNG and 3DS formats?

Well it could be possible that the 3D model and texture formats may change slightly for optimum performance on the PC. Similar to how the PC, PS2 and XBOX version of the GTA3 series worked; they have the same base file format but the actual model/texture data is platform specific, well except the PC version which has generic data.

offtopic : is this mod working in multiplayer too ? If yes, it's a big problem for races, ect.

GooD-NTS told me that when he does release the program, it won't support editing of the console files, just reading of the files. Be sides, you're not going to get very far on Xbox Live with a modded console, let alone a modded game. In regards to the PC version, I think he's planning on supporting editing of the PC files, however, Rockstar will most likely have things in place to check files before they let the person online. If not, just report them via the Games for Windows Live "dashboard" and Microsoft and Rockstar will check them out.

Thank you Gamerzworld for the information. Anyway, I own a PS3, so no mod for me, hehe.

 

By the way, I see there are a flamethrower and mini-gun that seems to be "desactivated" in the game, is there a way to reactivate them through "Open IV" ? Would be fun to watch a video about that !

Be sides, you're not going to get very far on Xbox Live with a modded console, let alone a modded game.

Actually thats wrong, when you mod a console for 360 you take out the 0800 code which has the things that identify your 360 for Microsoft/XBL Live so basically you can not get banned as the thing that identifies you is gone

omg, why everybody on gtaforums so much worry about the fact that you do legal/illegal things? WHY? dontgetit.gifconfused.gif Gtaforums is not official R* forum! It is fun to modify console files - It is fun to play mods in front of TV)) Hope that you only afraid of fact that R* can compress/change coding of files- and hope that after the PC realise your programs will be able to modify Xbox and PC files)

 

And why do you think that to modify PC files is legal? biggrin.gif
