From the looks of it I too thought the files are either encrypted or compressed.

As shown they are indeed compressed, but whenever I try to decompress a chunk I get a Z_DATA_ERROR error confused.gif

Am I missing something here?!

Are they indeed compressed with Zlib or encrypted too, like XOR ?

RPF files what we're talking about wink.gif

Fox xbox gta3/vc R* used lzo compression. LZO1x-999, to be precise. If you ever don't get anything decompressed with zlib, I would take a look at this.

And whether probably to combine these files with GTA SA? For example adjustments of cars? smile.gif

yeah tried the LZO compression doesn't work.

So I was right with my initial guess ZLIB but still I get the Z_DATA_ERROR error when decompressing.

Which makes me believe the compressed data is xor encrypted.

In every RPF the first chunk starts at 0x800 (possibly indexing the files in the archive, offset,name,..)followed by a repeating 16byte chunk. This is the same in every RPF but length vary, followed by another chunk of data.

This is the repeating 16 byte key:

As the size varies from RPF to RPF this looks like a padding, but if it is indeed xor'd then this is the 16 byte encryption key ?!

But I don't think R* would be that stupid to xor null bytes ?!

Still have to figure this out confused.gif

I know you don't want to share any more details, which is fair enough but maybe there is someone who got any info wink.gif

 

But seeing you guys already documented the file format, this work is pretty much pointless, but still it's nice to tamper around with it on my own biggrin.gif

And it's not like there's a high demand in modding console GTA IV biggrin.gif

it's not XOR and ur sequence it's not the key )

File data begins from 2048(0x800) byte

encryption method is widely using now

Isn't it possible to install games on HDD's? That wouldn't be illegall then i think, because console wouldn't be modded.

running it from the hd would be kinda usefull. as making a change and burning a dvd each time is gnna use up my dvds.

Firstly, you do have to install a modification to the console to mod VCS, secondly, nobody's even modding yet.

 

sure but you can extract the files from, say, the ps2 version disc, import them into gmax with my mdl import script and export them to say PC VC.

 

But then again there is plenty of things going around here which are not *legal*. GTA:LC is definitely not legal. It's just that for as long as it doesn't cost The Star or MS or anybody else any substantial amounts of money, etc. those companies seem to be willing to overlook all of it. Why bother?

 

At least that has been their policy up to now, it seems.

this is cool. you can extract these .sco files are you able to then open then in notepad ? or wil they need to be decompiled like scm files?

Don't you get it? He's only at the stage of OPENING it. The files aren't cracked (meaning they don't know what each file is precisely, how to open it/modify it/use it in all sorts of applications.

 

So let those who know what they're talking about and know what they're doing post in this topic... BS/senseless posts are just a waste of space in this topic.
