Rockstar, please give us install option for 360

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed that GTA on the 360 dosn't make use of the ability to install GTA 4's assets to the hard drive. Streaming all the audio/texture/geomatry data straight from the dvd-rom puts enormouse strain on the dvd drive and could lower the life expectancy of the unit !!! When running around liberty city the dvd rom is constanly working VERY hard to prefetch the data into main memory.

I understaned the 360 core/acade(no HD) SKU complicated things for rockstar so they decided to not support this feature on the 360. But the performance advantges of using the HD are too huge to ignore and it saves the life of the dvd-rom. I think xbox 360 owners are entilted to the option of installing for this very reason. Rockstar please develop a patch to allow installation support, thanx

When that first pseudo review popped up online, I was really glad to hear that installation was an option on the 360. But once it was revised, I was bummed.

I mean, so far, I've had very few loading issues playing the game, but there should be no reason to give the PS3 a mandatory advantage.

I think Rockstar would have done this if MS weren't so stringent on their closed XBL OS. The whole OS is very tight compared to the PS3 version for security reasons. This issue was raised back when Gears came out. We all wanted to install partial game data to HD but no luck.

Even if Rockstar were to say "Okay" it wouldn't be something they could do now that the master disc has been pressed, and millions of copies have been purchased. It's unfortunate, but I don't think it'll ever happen for a 360 game.

Be fairly easy to do with a patch I think, just have a file that loads when the disc boots, checks to see if the files are there, dumps them if they aren't through an in-game option, and just modify the code running in memory to look for resources from the hard drive instead of the disc. Personally, I have enough hard drive space to dump the entire disc onto the hard drive, because I stream all my media from my PC.

Would be a nice thing to have, although personally the 3 second loads times before cutscenes doesn't bother me in the slightest, gives me time to pick my nose. tounge.gif
