jman420
anyone else very f*cking frustrated by this?? im choked im playing on 360, and have my controls set up for 'classic' style play WHICH DOES NOT SUPPORT FREEAIM MODE LIKE STANDARD DOES i am forced to relearn how to drive after years of using the same controls in GTA, or stay with classic setup WHICH HAS NO FREEAIM AND sh*tTY AIMING SYSTEM its bullsh*t, i dont understand why freeaim is not setup at all in classic control style - doesnt make very much f*cking sense the only way i can SORTA freeaim in classic, is if i tap my fire button repeatedly, moving the xhair around before i waste my f*cking ammo which is slow and sucks ass dont get me started on the auto aim either, what a joke.. its f*cking bullsh*t that GTA would just shaft all the old gta fans by limiting what you can do with the classic setup, instead forcing us to relearn game controls so we get all the benefits of play other then that, this game rules but f*ck you retards who made it like this, f*cking fix this in the next patch you assholes if anyone has comments or tips on how to play over this, besides the obvious garbage "relearn controls u f*ckin noob", shoot or gtfo
Mr. Someguy
Hold the auto-aim button down half-way. That's free-aim.
IrishMobster
yup half hold the trigger to free aim
BlackMamba47
Hold the auto-aim button down half-way. That's free-aim. Thats his problem. With classic controls, the auto-aim button isn't a trigger, and you cant hold a 360 non-trigger button down half-way since the buttons arent pressure sensitive. So he either has to play with the new controls, which can be weird but have free-aim, or with the classic controls but don't have free-aim unless you use the fire buttons quick enough before you automatically start to shoot and waste bullets. Seddo
You want classic controls then you have classic controls, there was never a free aim button for the small weapons. I find the new controls much better anyway, i got used to them about 5 minutes into the game.
jman420
for someone who smokes 3-5 joints a day, and has played the same way for years - its not so easy just making the switch no matter how hard i try, my thumb always moves to do accelerating and braking which just f*cks me up in the middle of a chase or somesh*t oh well, i guess ill spend all day getting frustratingly used to it, because i can no longer play with the goofy aiming controls for classic i wish they address this in upcomming patches or somesh*t, doesnt make sense that you can do more in one setup, but not the other - does it? jman420
lol im actually taking most of my rant back, driving with new controls is quite easy.. i just must of been really too damn stoned when i was trying b4.. im playing with no prob(not stoned yet).. still move my thumb at times but getting used to it fast ALTHOUGH, i still think classic should support freeaim... lol

It took me about 30 seconds to pick up on them. Driving took about 20 minutes to get used to. Go online and learn shooting. All the games for the next gen consoles use the triggers for driving so get used to it.
Starion
ALTHOUGH, i still think classic should support freeaim... lol Classic CAN'T support Freeaim no matter what, because the buttons aren't pressure sensitive. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. THEBIGZED
I have this same problem with PS3 and I just can't get used to driving using L2 and R2 so therefore I must stick with the classic settings. I find the driving to be much more comfortable and natural with X- and SQUARE-button; somehow it just makes the timing more accurate and handbrake turns easier to pull off. But why, oh why, did R* have to make the free aiming so difficult for those who prefer the classic controls? The least they could have done would have been including a possibility to customize your controls so I could have the classic setting for driving and the standard setting for shooting for example. There's one problem even with the driving when using the classic settings: I practically can't freeaim and accelerate at the same time. This is because I'm already using my right thumb to press the X-button so it's impossible to use it for aiming with the right thumb stick at the same time. Well, there's my rant. Hopefully they'll fix this in future. EDIT: There's one way you can kinda freeaim with classic. Just press the lock-on button (R1) and look somewhere uncrowded or go in cover. The problem is that these "tricks" don't always help. Edited May 16, 2008 by THEBIGZED
Xamot
when driving, don't rely on the parking break as much as you used to. you do have different options on how to turn though.. 1) Gran Turismo style... break hard before a turn, and then make the turn tight and without acceleration or breaking. accelerate as you come out of the turn. 2) Shifting weight... slow down before the turn, then jerk the car away from the turn and then turn hard to the inside of the turn... this will give you a controllable drift similar to the way the parking break used to work. 3) Powerslide... begin the turn far on the outside and about 1/2 block to a block before the turn.. right after you begin to turn inward slam the parking break and the breaks at the same time... this will cause a side slide effect that is less loose than just turning with the e-break. it is difficult to control but you won't spin out by doing this.... i usually use method 1... i use method 2 when i'm changing lanes and my car is loose before i reach a turn... i use 3 when i'm flying down a straightway and i can turn into a 4 lane turn. and i also mix up combinations of the break, e-break, and weight shifting depending on what's happening. if you can't tell, i love the driving system in GTAIV
Undecided
Yeah you have to relearn how to drive in this GTA anyway, thanks to the 'realistic' driving
