It doesn't mute the sounds of the game but it does go over the top of everything including on foot, in vehicles, cutscenes etc. I tried this when I remember I had the Soprano's theme song on my PC so of course I tried to re-enact the opening of The Soprano's, is that geeky or what? Just got myself a PS3 on Wednesday with GTA (bundle), got a message from a friend on PSN while playing and couldn't believe I had to exit the game to see it!! What was the point in telling me about the message if I cant even view it. Everything is 100x simpler on the 360. GTA wont even run in 1080p despite my friend telling me how its impossible for my 360 to run at 1080p and the only console which runs at 1080p is the PS3. Funny think GTA @ 1080p works fine on 360. Yes I have fiddled with the settings, GT5 Prologue runs at 1080p. This isn't a fanboy posting just a bit peeved at going out spending £300 on a console which is a best half baked. Hell even the R2/L2 were a last minute thought the way they are just slapped in, very uncomfortable using them. From using the PS3, the hardware is there and yes it seems good, but no better than what the 360 is pushing out. As for the software its really poor. XMB is confusing, hard to use, lacking basic features and so on. Just my take on the two consoles.
