lasventurasman
After playing GTA IV since its release, I've been wondering how does it compare to the other GTA games. I've owned all the GTA games apart from GTA London and I think that San Andraes was the best purely because of the amount of things you can do. What do all the rest of you think is the best GTA? rist
I believe so. I was entertained throughout the game until its climatic ending (no joke). I think it ranks up there with Final fantasy for storyline, as interesting a representation of criminal organizations such as The Goodfella's (in terms of films). It rivals Forza 2 with Car control and damage effects. In fact the damage is so good nothing comes close. Shooting is very good, I can easily say it beats the likes of GOW at times. The choices you make rival the likes of Knights of the Old Republic 1. As for the features that SA had, I really think they were only fluff features. I never truly had fun with them. When I think of a GTA I think of chases, fun fights; I mean gun fights, racing around the city like Need for Speed Underground, and getting involved with the complex and intriguing story. I think planes would not make sense with this game. I am glad they left out those kind of features. I would probably like to see it in a 'State' style version of GTA in the future. Copilot
Gta 4 for me, the pointless little things in SA sucked, Repeatedly tapping X isn't something I find fun.
Lethal Nizzle
I like GTA IV because it has that gritty feel of story-telling. Instead of going from the dumps to mansions and girls, you go from dumps to better dumps. San Andreas was great fun, yet it exaggerated on several features. I wished that some of less exaggerated features (more customization, among other things) would make it into GTA IV. I was wrong.

Yeah, I really like the way the storyline develops in IV and also the way you feel as though your are influencing the outcome of the story by making decisios of life and death for certain characters. However, I do think it would've been nice to include certain things from San Andreas such as gambling.
Raynos
YES YES YES! Gta 4 is surely the best.... SA was alright.. the startin was rather slow, wasnt really my cup of tea, the hood n all. I also kinda lost interest in that game.. I've been playin gta4 hardcore, on average 13hrs a day for the past 4 days.... and damm.... i am nowhere near bored of it! Love this game! Love the damage! Love the handling! Almost everything I'd want in a game is in this game! GTA 4 F T W!
DTre
San Andreas is better sadly..
lasventurasman
Yeah it is much more realistic than previous GTAs however I think that the music in the game is nowhere near as good as that in Vice City and San Andreas. I know it doesn't sound like much but it just dampens the feeling of the game.
Obese_Tony
As for the features that SA had, I really think they were only fluff features. I never truly had fun with them. When I think of a GTA I think of chases, fun fights; I mean gun fights, racing around the city like Need for Speed Underground, and getting involved with the complex and intriguing story. Agreed. The bad driving physics and damage model from past GTA games always prevented me from truly enjoying the game. It always felt like the driving part was neglected. Now, the handling of the cars and such is really up to par with games like Gran Turismo. I can honestly say that GTA IV is the best game I ever bought. 10/10. Machinehead155
SA < IV SA was just more of the same with a bunch of useless (and not fun) mini games thrown into the mix and the story was extremely lackluster. In terms of quality, SA just can't compare in any way, shape or form. That includes both gameplay and storytelling.

Jeyo
Gta IV I guess the graphics rocks, the controls are in my opinion better, the shooting system makes more sense, and its a bit harder than the previous gta's wich I think is fun because the previous gta's were too easy.. GTA.MAD.AJ
+ ENTER the Airport + Able to fly SMALL mini planes, not the ones in SA and not the huge Fly US planes either = Best GTA. But yeh, SA and IV - its a close call (without thinking about the graphics)
Konvict
I still prefer San Andreas for some reason. The huge world, out-of-it missions, and colorful characters were brilliant. I don't like these all these annoying Russian accents in GTA4, the game's too blurry, the framerate lags (small) constantly, there's no jetpacks and unrealistic stuff. Too real is not good. I think I prefer Vice City over IV, too.
redwolf206
There's no gym or fingerless gloves in IV... So SA all the way.
Mallrat
Other than Bernie, I like all the characters (don't call me I hater. I like gay men. Just not stupidly annoying Will and Grace ones) and I think it's, at points, a really intelligent look at immigrant crime and the American Dream. However, I still prefer GTA III. I think it's more to do with the fact that it wasn't disappointing in any way because the hype for it was far less than the hype for this. There was practically no expectations because (ignoring games like Urban Chaos and Shenmue) no-one had seem a game like that before. I do like how there are choices to make but games like Mass Effect, KOTOR and even the X-Files game had more involving choices. All I decide is whether certain people live or die. Yes, there are two occasions where they are really involving moments but I didn't really feel like I was changing things THAT much. Besides, I still prefer old LC over the new one. Wilddtd
I don't think it should matter how much false hype there was surrounding this game. The internet is filled with more B.S. these days, and that's why anyone with a computer can make up false information and post it. Anyways, all that considered, I don't think any of the other games, in terms of story compare to IV. Once you get far enough, the story really opens up into a great drama, with comedy and other elements that are amazing for a video game, plus the choice to kill or not kill someone, playing god is fun. SA had a lot of side games, but again, it wasn't really stuff that needed to be in the game or made it better. Playing basketball, ehh, changing hair cuts or clothes to make you look like a clown, not necessary at all, especially if you wanna be a straight killer. For the story about Niko, experiencing what it is to create your own american dream, while at the same time getting deeply involved in crime is accurate and exciting. Also, Niko constantly talks about how this is not what he wanted, he thought he was coming her to escape these things, but now he has to kill everyone so that he can have that dream. So far I have believed that every new GTA game was the best, obviously this is no different and I agree, it is the best of the series so far. Gamecocks
DEFINITELY IV for one reason. Online, I love playing free roam with mates. Other then that, I want me some damn fight planes. Sorry some of the small things like that really added a lot of fun. It took them what 4 years for GTA IV? They could have added a little more things for when you beat the game. emigrating
I don't think it should matter how much false hype there was surrounding this game. The internet is filled with more B.S. these days, and that's why anyone with a computer can make up false information and post it. Problem is - the hype was created by R* and the game journos, not by some dumb f*cker writing a blog from his bedroom. There are so many things left out of IV that was, at one point or another, "confirmed" features by various gaming websites through their previews of the game or interviews with major R* staff. That's what created the hype. Was it all just marketing ploys after all? Have R* "sold out" as some would say? f*ck yes. R* is, as any games developer out there, a business. They have to make money to survive and the best way to do so is to hype their product. Unfortunately I think they may have overhyped this one. I know I won't pre-order the next one in the series (if there ever is one) nor will I purchase the DLC for the 360 without knowing exactly what I'm getting (ie. waiting a week or so after release). Do I think it's a good game? Hell yes, but it's not a perfect game and under no circumstances deserve the 10/10 marks it got pretty much everywhere. Was SA better? Tough call, they're so completely different (yet very much alike). Obviously the graphics are heaps better in IV, but as we all know, graphics ain't everything. Controls... to be honest, I think they're more or less the same - sure, the cars handle differently in IV, but once you're used to it you can still go full throttle down the wrong side of the freeway without much problems. I dunno... personally I think it comes down to size, and SA is much bigger than IV (no matter what R* tries to tell us about building vertically - f*ck that, as long as I cannot enter [m]any of these vertical buildings I don't give a sh*t how tall they are). Also, in IV, friends/relationships are too big a deal if you ask me. For once I'd like to be able to walk slowly from the north of Middle Park to the south without my phone ringing five times asking me to go drinking, playing pool or whatnot. Shieet, if I wanted that sort of gameplay I'd play the Sims or go create something in Second Life. Finally, WTF is up with the in-game internet? Sure, it's fun (to begin with) but I would have preferred R* spending the money this cost (in terms of manhours) on polishing what they already had and not releasing what feels like a premature game. Coltrane's Muse
In terms of storyline, emotional investment and aesthetics? Definitely. Technically, it isn't as groundbreaking as its predecessor(s), but it's a fine evolution of the franchise, to be sure.
