zooloo75
Well, the car damage looks very realistic, and we all know that the car damage felt so fake in the past games. I want to know if the damage is different depending on how you crash it and can be crushed up really bad. Or is it just premade like in the past gta's? It feels real now, but I don't know if it is premade or depended on how hard you crash it. Like one time a lobbed a grenade to a side fo a car and the whole side was crushed in! smokeythedemon
Heres a clue "Euphoria" hope that helps I don't think that Euphoria has anything to do with car damage, but it's not pre-made.
rist
I was racing at night when it was raining bad. I kept hitting things with the right front end of the car and after a couple of medium hits all the corner was tended in, the wheel leaned in slightly and my steering was driving to the right quite a bit without any intervention. This kind of thing reminds me of Forza 2 when a suspension is gone. I think it is premade, but like the physics, in such a way that it has a complex way of 'calling' up which model type to show. Mr_Prickles
Euphoria is all about "living" characters interacting with their invironments, self preservation, etc. This can be seen like when you go flying off a bike, and you can kind of see how Niko sort of covers his head before impact... kind of like IRL. [EDIT] I'd say it was pre-made.
DrAKeN3D
I cant tell from personnal experience, but someone said that he ran in a square concrete block and the dent in the care fitted the shape of the block perfectly. I'd love to think that the damage system is not "premade", but then again, if we have to ask about it and wonder... if it's premade, it's quite convincing ! zooloo75
So it's premade? awww...But DAMN! It looks pretty damn real! Better than the past games.
mackmane420
@Mr_Prickles Sorry to say this but euphoria doesn't just involve characters.. If you've seen the demo videos..Euphoria can also be used to make metal dent/bend like metal, to make wood bend/break/splinter under weight, and the list goes on and on for the possibilities.. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/17055.html View this again, the characters do try preserve themselves but take a look at the environment I think(I'm not sure) but the wood is acting on what the settings/properties are set to.. I presumed they did the same for the metal body-work of the cars in GTAIV... I think that the look Euphoria brings will be better than any pre-made will be :| any thoughts? drwizardphd
The vehicle damage in GTA 4 is most definitely NOT premade! I can attest for this personally as early on when I was screwing around about the airport I tried to squeeze my car under the big engine on one of the 747's that was taking off. Lo and behold, I backed out with a huge dent, shaped exactly like the engine. Go try it for yourself, the damage is calculated based on where you get hit. It's very realistic. imheretostay
It isn't premade, it is dynamic. It's not even a very complicated system, it was even in Mafia back in 2002.

No, euphoria is physics, and human like reactions. They use all that breaking apart stuff with DMM. But R* might use something else?

mackmane420
No, I think THAT'S called Endorphin, not Euphoria. I have the endorphin LE version... And I don't see what your trying to get at.. EVERYTHING in endorphin is all pre-made and time-lined.. We were talking about the damage physics of cars..You kinda went way off topic
GTAGuy
No, it isn't pre-made. The vehicle mesh is dynamically deformed and crumpled according to where it is hit. Sure there have been limits included to keep a vehicle from crumpling into a ball of metal or something, so as to keep things realistic, but there is no way they could have pre-made models for every conceivable dent and crumple that could happen to a vehicle. One bit of evidence to support this is something that happened to me. I drove a large SUV off of a ramp and landed on the back of a limo from about 30 feet in the air. The result was catastrophic. The entire rear portion of the limo was completely smashed flat, from the roof down to the trunk. The damage dealt matched the size of the SUV and the angle of the crushed section reflected the angle that I landed at. This is perfect evidence for procedural vehicle damage I think. Raynos
lol.... premade or not.... does it really matter? IF it was premade, it'd mean that for EACH car thousands of damage designs would've been loaded..... thats alot of data! IF it wasnt premade then it's saving some data and calculating damage as it goes. In either case, the damage looks GREAT! Every crash is different, your roof even caves in! Whatever they use, they did an excellent job, if it was premade, its doin an excellent job of realistically apply the damage. EDIT Even the boats and helicopters get damaged! SO COOOOL! No more SOLID frames!

Fatpack
No, the car damage is not premade, but get generated after speed and object you hit, and where on the vehicle you drive. Same as the rain in the game. The weather will not be the exactly the same twice. It's a new engine they use
