R* Removed So Much Stuff

If you guys hate GTAIV so much because it's without all those boring features from San Andreas, why don't you stop posting and go play GTASA? Damn...

I prefer GTA2 over GTASA, to be honest. GTASA's graphics sucked balls. The gameplay was awesome, but the animations on the new stuff were awful. The only thing I miss from GTAIV are the planes, but, as long as I have GTA, I'm good.

R* have removed so much stuff they promised in the game i cant name them all but there was dragging bodies, listening to music on cellphone, taking photos and sending them to freinds, fingerless gloves, etc

why do you think they took so much out?

I don't recall being promised dragging bodies or taking photos or shooting under cars. But there was a lot of good stuff expected that wasn't delivered. They did the same thing with SA. And probably with the other games, too. Some things just get cut.

He climbs up in the end by tapping x. I'm not sure what you're all expecting by climbing up a power pole, unless you plan to hand by your feet and shoot like Sam Fisher, or get fried.

I think rockstar didn't want to give us more than we can handle.

Originally, if your car took too much damage, your wheel could possibly get jammed.

Your lucky we don't have traffic laws, but due to the physics, I think they will in fact be in the next game.

I don't know... yes they removed some things, but they also added many things as well. So doesn't that even things out? They wanted the game to be more about social interaction, and they did a great job methinks. And just like the previous GTAs, much of what people ask of you is completely optional. If you don't desire going on a date with the girlfriend or getting drunk with Roman, tell either "Yes," and then call back and cancel the date. It won't affect relationship status either way.

Where bonuses were gained in previous iterations, they're gained in new ways here. And the new way is, of course, via character interaction and gaining the trust of others.

Yes, they changed the missions like those of vigilante and taxi, but they're still there.

I took this from some place else over the issue of "WHAT TO DO IN GTA4!":

There are cab missions you can do for Roman (similar to what past GTAs had, only there aren't "levels," you just do it to earn money). There are races to do for Brucie. Cars to steal for Brucie. Cars to steal from text messages. Vigilante missions. Most Wanted missions. Assassination missions. Drug Trafficking missions. Stunt Jumps. Random Encounters (side missions). There is still a TON to do. You just have to progress in the game a bit before everything opens up to you (just like in the past, if you want all the city open, you have to beat like 75% of the game's main missions). Things like fire and ambulance were removed, but Assassination and Most Wanted missions were added, and there's more a lot more car theft missions also (you get a set from Brucie via email, as well as like 30 cars from text messages). Drug Trafficking is also new.

I see plenty. Sure, previous GTAs had subjectively "cool" things to do like gambling or personalizing vehicles, but those GTAs don't have minigames from this game either.

Not to mention all the general gameplay boosts in contrast to the others:

-far better gunplay with a nice cover-mechanic

-less cartoonish driving

-arguably better storyline (well, really, this doesn't contribute to gameplay, so this can be excused)

And I forgot to mention the benefits of dating... I read (from the same person that I implemented the quote from) that for specific people you're dating, you'll recieve bonuses from. For instance, if you date a nurse, she can help with health. So obviously they've expanded on that in great ways this time around. Whereas in San Andreas, dating felt somewhat tacked on.

There's a lot of features beneath the crevices that I believe people are accidentally overlooking. This game is very deep, just in different ways.

Dude, this is what happens to successful franchises after about the 3rd game in the series, sometimes it takes more sequels, and sometimes less, but at some point the people who are funding the game are going to start coasting on popularity at the expense of fun.

Don't get me wrong, this game is very good, but it ain't no 10/10 like all the mags are claiming...

This is the 9th GTA, say bye bye to your theory.

Good point.

Maybe people are getting on their high horse too early, and forget that the DLC "may" contain this promised stuff.

All you have said is useless..

Wrong, None of what he said was useless. Every day I come to these forums I find out another feature that was cut from GTA4. It's amazing that Rockstar removed that many features, even San andreas had way more features. I was greatly disappointed that they removed the ability to listen to the radio using your cellphone. Remember it the little things that count and if all the fun features are removed from the game it just becomes dull and boring. What happened to the ability to open trunks? or how about taking photos and sending them to your friends? You can't tell me that the storyline is the only thing that makes the game great. Other then the better graphics which have been destroyed by the blur in the background the game just gets boring. I mean how many times are you going to play bowling with Roman? After you beat the storyline there's not much else to do, it feels boring which kills the replay value of the game.

HAH, yeah you're right, the game will suddenly become more replayable if you can go around opening the trunks of cars once you've completed all the missions. That makes a great deal of sense.

There are so many incredible and insightful "small things" in this game, and all some of you can do is notice what isn't there. You want hours of fun? See how far you can catapult yourself out of the front windshield of your car. Run around and kick homeless guys in the shin and watch them hop drunkly hop around. Set challenges for yourself, like getting as many headshots on police copter pilots as you can before you die. With all the wide open and endless possibilities in this game, you think it isn't fun because you can't climb a light pole? What the hell are you going to do once you get up there, anyway? That's right, climb back down. Hours of fun to be had, indeed.

What are you talking about? I've jammed a wheel several times already. If you get rammed by a large vehicle or somehow get smashed real good on the side of the car the wheels sometimes bend and jam. Also, if you do burnouts too much the tires will pop. This game has so many awesome details I don't understand why people complain at all.

Another thing I noticed is that all the little "things to do", when not doing main missions, all directly correlate to the gameplay. Keeping friends in the game allows you extra bonuses for helpful supplies during missions. Doing jobs allows for more trust in characters and, of course, money.

Rockstar did a great job at making a much more focused game. Everything done in the game fits within the game's universe, rather than having some other "stuff" tacked on to outlier areas, not pertaining in any thoughtful way to the single player gameplay. Cohesiveness?

Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif ok, ill admit there were big promises from R* in the game. but the explanation for this would be that they were getting leaks from people and needed to give them something to get them off the scent of the real deal.

a clever tactic but yes dissappointing. the reason we havnt seen planes, some weapons and other things is because GTA 4 is a base for the next gen set of gta games. GTA III came out on ps2 shortly after release AND THEN they built on top of it in the following games. they needed time to develop a base before building extra features on top such as planes, gambling etc.

Theyve put the bare essentials in this one but i can guarantee in any follow up games you will see the things we enjoyed like the parachute and hydra jet.

you can hold me to this aswell, i know my stuff im a game developer myself!!

Maybe Rockstar rushed the end of development to meet the release date i mean they shifted a lot of copies across the world this week and there was so much pressure on them to finish the game so they could start making that many cds, more than any game ever

I'm not a liar. I was not disappointed in the least. I am proud to say that GTA IV surpassed my expectations in every way. If you people don't like it and want to get your character fat or skinny or dress him in a f*cking gimp suit, go play San Andreas again. I think it's so immature to whine about useless features missing that weren't that fun in the first place. Who gives a crap about modding a freakin car? You can find enough variation in the cars in-game already. Some people play these games just for crap like this, and frankly, I don't think those are true fans of the series. I play for an engrossing story. That is why San Andreas sucked. That is also why IV is so wonderful to me. If you don't play these games for the story, then you are missing Rockstar's point entirely. The gamers that are actually mature and knew what to expect are very pleased. The ones who were in denial when features were announced as being taken out are the ones disappointed. I can't understand why, though. You were all told up front with the plethora of previews what would be missing and what would be included. If you didn't like what you read, you should have looked towards something else to get excited about. I hear Saint's Row 2 is gonna be all about some customization junk. You can have fun doin' all sorts of gangsta things, just like San Andreas! Go get psyched for that crap, then, and let the beauty of IV pass you by. Obviously you couldn't see it if you tried anyway.

I did play them for the story. I have never ignored a line of text or a cutscene in a GTA. I actually pay attention to the story of a game. It's pretty sad when you ignore what's actually going on. I guess you actually DID miss the point then, Mr Sarcastic. I hate This ADD generation...

GTA is the king of re-playability and GTA IV has cut out so many of it's features to dull down replaying the game. People who are saying "It's the story that counts" are just dumb. It's pretty f*cking rare you find someone who says they don't want to steal cars, kill people, blow things up an run from the police...Oh no, they just want to see the ending of the game then that's it.

This GTA sucks in terms of the hype you can basically do f*ck all. I've found myself just waiting around between missions which can only be done at certain times during the day. It seemed I had two sort of fun options, do police work or steal cars for the email list thing. There wasn't much else and the police chases aren't very fun, they end too quick or it's just speeding down a road past several police cars now an then who just drive into walls and stop. It's boring compared to...every other GTA.

Yes. Sadly, I was more interested in those games than San Andreas. The story in that game was so abysmal and CJ was so detached from reality that I hated it. I finished it, but I didn't enjoy it the way I did when I played GTAIII. Vice City was nothing compared to GTA III either. I at least enjoyed Vice though. San Andreas was a silly circus act of a GTA. I don't want to play dress up, eat, and work out in my games. I don't want my character to get fat or get skinny, especially with horrible character modelling. I don't want to be a stereotypical gangbanger, running through the halls of a secret military base whilst killing a small army and looking for a fantasy jetpack. All that crap is for little kiddies. IV is an artful masterpiece. It is more entertaining than most movies, not to mention every game currently on the market. The story wasn't created to be ignored, you know.

I hate this retard generation, too. Sure am glad I'm not part of it. Idiot.

I don't want the game to be like a movie, I want to have fun an kill people, mod cars and buy things.

Money means f*ck all...He's all like "I only kill for money"...What does he actually do with the money?? Just keep it in his virtual wallet.

ATM's....wtf do they do?

Car washes...wow! I removed some dirt!

So much sh*t stuff in the game that they could replace with good stuff that would please 80% of GTA players.

The guy who keeps saying "I hate this retarded generation"...SHUT UP! Nobody cares, this is an internet forum, stop crying over f*cking posts that disagree with your view on the game. Why post that on a forum?? Lame and sad. Go socialise with people your own age you f*cking tard.

I have around $300k at the moment with maxed out weapons and nothing at all to spend it on apart from $1 burgers. It just seems pointless doing that.
