8300dvo
i was playing around just driving, not doing anything in particular and died. it went to the loading screen where it stayed for about 5 mins. tired of waiting i reset the console only to find that GTA wouldn't pop up in the list of games, i tried resetting and again the problem remains, and it this isnt bad enough, it now doesn't read any disc in the drive. any help? Freshmetal
Well mine did exactly the same. I went as far as re-formatting the hdd to try and remedy it, but it's definitely the disc drive which is the problem, as I can't even re-install anything now, as the discs either don't read at all, or they freeze during installation. The Sony helpline was closed by the time I tried this evening, but hopefully they can help if I contact them tomorrow, be it a fix, repair or replacement. I suggest you do the same if it doesn't remedy itself anytime soon.

Probably fooked up your disc drive, a lot of people on both PS3 and Xbox have problems. I guess around 1/4 of all the people who bought the first shipment of GTA IV, myself included, have this problem. My xbox 360 scratched the CD, and i mean a big one. One piece of advice for you: I hope you still have your receipt of your 360? Go and send it to Microsoft or e-mail them first to see what you can do, they will give you directions/sometimes even send you a box to put your Xbox in and send it back to them. Whatever you do, do it quick but careful, unless you want to wait 1 year for another copy of GTA IV or a new 360.
T-Wall
COD 4 messed up mine, but I think it was a time thing. Only played the session for 6 minutes when it happened. Sony still have mine. I had an 80gb, from my earlier findings it was the earlier models. Mine july 2007

Exact same problem happened to me, I let the console sit for a few hours and went back to play and it did the same thing to me again yesterday. So I let it sit for 24 hours, and it never worked again. Luckily (I SUPPOSE you can say) I just bought the damn thing on April 22nd so Best-Buy tested it out and exchanged it for me right then. Now the new one seems to be working just fine, this time around however I only updated to firmware 2.17 and did not establish an internet connection at all. Fingers are crossed. Freshmetal
Just to follow up on my earlier comment, I phoned Sony today and explained the problems I had been having. I was told that it was an technical issue with the blu-ray lens and its associated components, and that a free replacement would be with me on thursday (they said it would be a 60gig again too, so at least it retains backwards compatibility even if the problems could potentially re-occur in the future). Bit annoying, but swiftly rectified. I would suggest that you give them a ring too 8300dvo.

Pretty sad if you ask me, but atleast mine was replaced for free as well. I scared the guy at Best-Buy to. He hadn't heard of any GTA4 issues with the PS3 and said he was coming after me if his PS3 started acting up
