Foxy1
OK I've only played single player so far ...and loving it obviously. Want to get a bit further before I venture online but how good is it? My only other online gaming experience is COD4 which I've played quite a bit over the last 6 months ...I know they are not like for like but would you rate the GTA online experience as better? My only other online gaming experience is COD4 which I've played quite a bit over the last 6 months ...I know they are not like for like but would you rate the GTA online experience as better? Technical problems aside, I would say that GTA 4 is a very rewarding online experience. I'm playing on the 360, so I can't comment on ps3's issues, but I've only had a little trouble getting into online matches. Once you get in, the modes are all pretty varied and fun. Turf war and team deathmatch are especially attractive if you like urban guerrilla warfare, cause that's what the games break down into. The coop modes are fun if you have friends online. Call of duty 4 is a tighter experience, but GTA offers alot more to do. They're both fun but they both suffer from the same infamous flaw: no split screen multiplayer. Gone are the days of hanging out with your friends in person.
Sw3RvE
cod4 has much better multiplayer right now. after the problems are fixed, im sure it will be alot more fun!
Titus001
Call of duty 4 by far........ The online play for call of duty 4 works great. Gta4 on the other hand for the ps3 is bad as of now. I always get this message "The connection to one or more player has been lost" Some people on here say they can't even access mp. Atleast i'm 1 step ahead of them.... Jaydee208
COD4 >>> GTA4 (Online) Call is just designed for Online play while GTA 4 is made for its Single Player experience (and GTA online is a new concept so they will need to fix alot of bugs) right now i'd much rather Bring the Pain! as Niko. btw forum name is my GT add me if u'd like the COD4 & GTA4 are the games i usually play. Fenro
When you get to such a priceles moments like facing off a helichoper wich is equiped with 2 miniguns controlled by a another player. and you only hapen to have a hand gun and still somehow survive untouched and kill the oposing player... its f*cking satisfying man. GTA4 online is so variable and diferent from a normal FPS game it totaly gives a huge and diferent feel to multiplayer gaming. other cool moments to list - shooting a helichoper driver from sky with your sniper rifle while there are few people still inside and watch them all plumet to ground - shoot a misile into a car with 4 people in it - going for a mug off in free race mode just before finish line with the closest competitor. Thease are just few of the cool moments ive experienced in Gta4: online.
Goosell
I have to strongly disagree with what a lot of people have said above i only experienced problems the first couple of days online, it would seem like my bullets did nothing because of lag, but over the weekend i had an extreme amount of fun in GTA multiplayer. Free mode is serious fun if you just feel like getting on a bike or in a car or in a helicopter and just messing around. Killing tons of cops with a helicopter turret never gets old. Then if you want to have some more serious gameplay go into team death match it is a blast. Sometimes you will have stupid hosts that only play with shotguns and auto aim on but most of the time you will get normal settings, like no auto aim all weapons. This to me is a blast. and way more fun than COD 4. Sometimes ill go and get a sniper, sometimes ill go and get some rockets, sometimes ill ride shotgun with an uzi, and other times ill just go after people with my pistol. Cod 4 is fun but i think GTA you can do more things in one match then you can do in COD 4 which makes it more fun and you can play it longer without getting bored.......... BTW im playing on the 360 version.
Spankwire
GTAIVs Multiplayer is much more enjoyable then that of COD4. I mean, TDM can get boring on COD4 but on GTA it only wears off when there's one dude on the other team lol But hey, COD4s lobby system is much more convient to me though. Starting games takes way too long at times, found myself sitting here saying "WTF, when is this sh*t going to start." Which also gets worse specially when the countdown hit 0 but restarted for reasons I dont even know! If they can roll the Host changing settings with COD4s lobby I'd be very please with this game. I know COD4s lobby system aint great but its a good step in the right direction.

Like i stated above there are so many different ways you can play GTA and COD just doesnt have that im definitely willing to spend 5 extra mins in a game lobby to have the experience of GTA online
Asgautr
I'd say CoD4 is more consistently fun. In GTA4 you might be left behind in Cops 'n' Crooks to drive alone to the extraction point, or get stuck in a game with autoaim on, or have someone crash into you in GTA Race and have your car flipped over a bridge when you're in 1st place, or have your console freeze, or be vote kicked out of a game to make room for someone's friends and be forced to go back to single player... But I'd say during that 1% of the time where GTA4 online is fun, hell yes it's better than CoD4! You can tell I've had quite a few heartbreaking moments in GTA4. Spankwire
And yeah man thats another problem with GTAIVs multiplayer mode. I specially hate it when your respawned far far far far away from were all the actions at. Only to arrive there with a bunch of blown up cars and dead peds. They should make characters move a lot faster
Goosell
Even with those problems, ive had way way more fun in GTA then cod or halo for that matter.
Foxy1
Cheers guys, sounds like the variation in gameplay and the huge environment is a big win for GTA 4 once the techical issues are ironed out ...COD4 can get tiresome with the same old maps (though I've yet to cough up for the new map pack) ...anyway back to the single player, still only 15% through
Stopher630
GTA4 isn't a very good stand alone FPS, BUT add some vehicles to the mix and it turns into a SUPIDLY fun multiplayer game. I still just crack up when an opponent flies over a hill in a sports car briefly turning me into a bloody skidmark. The cover system is pretty tight. Especially now that I'm getting the hang of rolling into cover and what not. And the left button taunt/greeting is halarious imo. Auto - Aim blows and should be removed from rank play.
