arsenal_fan
i find turning corners fast extremely hard, if i use handbrake i spin out of control but if i use brake i dont make the turn properley. It pisses me off because in chasing missiong i have to wait for the person to make a mistake then kill them. Does anyone have any tips?

Eltic
You will HAVE to slow down a bit by releasing .(or A)

MercuryAndy
I have found if you take your foot of the accelerator when turning then put it back on when you are almost through the corner you go round fast.

Mike0
Brake long before the corner. While you are in the corner do it without throttle. Then in the middle of the corner give it a little throtle, then max throtle. Also try using hood-view, I think its better to drive that way. SoSoildGTAKid04
I turn with the handbrake, especially when running from Police, they end up going flying into something. Quite fun. But normally, break then release, then hit the pedal, and you will turn at a nice speed.
Symbiote666
Remember, in chases THEY have to slow down as well, so don't be afraid to slow down for fear of losing them. Use LT or L2 (depending on version) a lot when coming to corners, it's pretty easy when you get the hang of it.

ZeroZero
approach the corner at speed, then apply the brakes (but not all the way) and start turning in, then around the time you hit the corner tap the handbrake. thats what i do and it keeps my car up to speed.. xer0er
Is it just me, or those who can't drive *real* good in GTA IV are also ones who don't drive? I drive all the time and everywhere - a lot of driving skill under my belt from experience - I can pick any car in GTA IV and drive it like a professional. Those that seem to complain (not saying that the topic starter is - talking about other threads) put off the image that they aren't old enough to drive, or that they don't drive in real life (usually by how they explain they currently drive in GTA IV). And those that say they picked it up quick and easy, well, they seem to be old enough to have had their licence for a while.. So, coincidence, or is it just me? mrgrimez
i find it depends on the vehicle ur in, if its a sporty shaped car.. then the arse on it tends to slide out.. Which im fine with because rally games/and actrully driven a drift machine (Nissan 200sx S14)... So what i tend todo for fast drivin I.E getaways, Approch the corner on a wide angle.. so your on the left hand side of the road and you begin to turn the wheel so that when the car makes the turn the front wheel is near the kerb/corner ur turnin.. sounds complicated but its quite easeh todo as any Gravity u will receive will help slingshot the arse round if its a heavy car.. Tappin the Brake (Left trigger) while givin it subtle throttle will glide the car through the slide and accelerate out of it.. so basically if u wanna turn right.. stay to the left.. and vice versa, dependin on the traffic.. same concept like i said.. depends on the car really.. get into a open space and try turnin round objects... like get into the airport and practice.. ull soon get the hang of it.. *EDIT*.. The handbrake is Savage in some cars, it can feel somewhat.. to powerful so i tend not to use the E-brake untill i rip a 180degree, again its personal preference, u'll find ur own style sooner or later.. sorreh about the spellin and punctuation, am still pissed from last night lol.. how ironic? .Up&Coming.
I don't see why everyone has problems driving, it's just like playing PGR or Forza Maybe not everyone has played those games... On Topic: I use handbrake and the brake at the same time, but just slowing down and then accelerating when you're almost through the turn has been working better for me as well. K^2
You do it the same way you do it on a real car. In fact, it almost better if you practice it on a real car first. Two main methods. 1) No drift. Go to the outside of the turn. Slow down enough to make the turn (learn with practice). Brake hard (not handbrake) as you enter the turn. That shifts center of gravity forward, giving you more traction on front wheels. Enter the turn. When you are half-way through the turn, you must be as close to the left side of the road as possible for best result. At this point, begin to accelerate. If you see that you aren't going to make the turn, sometimes you can fix that by entering a drift. 2) Drift. This isn't your typical arcade racer, like Burnout. You have to work for your drift. There are several ways to initiate the drift. Since service brakes seem to be severely ABSed, and there is no shifter or clutch, the easiest way to initiate the drift is with a handbrake. Start making a turn. Tap handbrake to make the rear wheels slide. Wait just a bit and release the hand brake. Don't wait until your car is perpendicular. You'll spin out. Apply throttle and turn the wheels to point in direction of motion. Direction of front wheels is the most important part. Front wheels must roll, not slide. Rear wheels must slide. Throttle controls the radius of the turn, while steering is used to adjust the angle that body of the car makes with direction of motion. The optimal angle will depend on the amount of throttle, but at a really sharp turn, it can be going almost completely sideways. This angle also controls whether your car is slowing down or accelerating. If you point the car more into the turn, you'll make a turn sharper, but your car will slow down more. If you can find a big open field, it helps to try to make your car drift in a continuous circle while keeping a roughly constant speed. Once you can do that with ease, drifting through turns will be a breeze. Finally, how do you decide which to use? If you aren't going to need to slow down too much to use method 1, it will be faster. Drifting forces you to go on the outside, makes it harder to avoid collisions, increases danger of spinning out, and overall slows you down more. On the other hand, if you have to come to almost a complete stop to make a sharp turn, you are better off drifting through it. It will turn your car in the new direction faster, and you'll have to accelerate almost from rest either way. You'll have to practice a bit to be able to tell which will be faster when. Just keep in mind that while drifting looks cool, it isn't a universal solution for going somewhere fast. There are a lot of variations on this, but if you want to get into details, you are better off searching Gran Turismo forums. Everything that doesn't specifically make use of a stick shift should work at least to some extend in GTA IV. Deuce Deuce
For a start, think of cars like actual cars. If you drive in real life, it's a lot easier. When coming to do a turn, use your brakes to slow down and make the turn (without accelerating), slowly gain on the acceleration as you come out of it. Once you've mastered it, it's a lot easier for the more vehicle based missions and is a lot more fun. Also, NEVER use the handbrake for turning - you'll just spin out and crash into another car. Only use it if you need to [quickly] change direction.

K^2
There are just too many games out there that teach you to do precisely the wrong thing when your car is skidding to make it easier to control in the game. These are the games that are getting people killed. Not the violent once, but the racers that make everyone think that all you need to do is pull the handbrake push gas and turn the steering wheel to the max. Snake Without a Tongue
One tip no one ever mentions, but I've been using since SA is to use the camera. When turning, turn the perspective camera in the same direction. It seems to give an edge to tight spaces. Hard to explain.
Apollo_33
I dont know why nobody posted this (You know you can break easily by pressing LT/L2): Before turning, press LT/L2 for 0,5 secs and than re-accelerate...
