bvproductions
Many will say yes, some will say no. I personally am addicted to this game, and have been a diehard GTA fan for many years. Those who dislike the game are angry at the things taken out from SA. I, however, welcome the change, and enjoy the game very much.
Jaytow
Sa,vc gta III, vcs and lcs are all better.
Fockzilla
GTA IV is the best game IMO. Get it and see for yourself all the sweet glory. Every reviewer gave it a perfect score so... they can't all be lying.
phistyle
it's a good game but not worthy of a 10 rating that ign and others have given it....it has good replay value but the most of the mission are really repetitive..."drive across town and elminate X" type missions
[MenaceMovies]
Personally I would give the game a 9/10 (San Andreas 10/10) Both games kick ass though. Definately worth the money.
Smiley001
It's a game with perfect visuals and solid gameplay but some traditional features have been taken out... For example the Tank, which has been in every GTA, has been removed...
phistyle
are we looking at the same game? perfect visuals? you got to be kidding me...the game don't look any better than an xbox game...
Thrull
The game isn't a perfect ten. It pretty close, though. Graphically, the game is just amazing. Just amazing. Screen shots and videos don't do it justice. The first time you set foot in the city, you'll be wowed. The cut scenes are a bit better than GTA:SA, but honestly there wasn't a whole lot to improve on there anyway. The driving is more "realistic" for better or worse. Personally, I prefer it this way to any of the other GTA games out there. It takes a bit of getting used to, granted, but its well worth your time. The cover system is very well done. Fairly intuitive and a VERY good addition to the game. Speaking of additions, there is now a GPS which will show you the most direct legal route to your destination. The only issue I have with this is that the choose green as a line color for your way points (on missions its yellow, sometimes red). Green does not show up against the background color very well. They overhauled how the wanted system works as well. Its generally an improvement. Some say its a bit too easy, but I think its about right. And the taxi system rocks! You can whistle for a taxi and it'll take you anywhere you want to go. It costs a bit of cash, but when you want to get from one side of the city to the other without messing around, it really speeds up game play. Excellent feature. I do have a few minor beefs with the game. For one the some of text on my TV isn't very readable. This has been an ongoing thing with GTA games since at least Vice City. I had hoped this would be fixed with San Andreas, and it wasn't then either. It still isn't now. The auto aim is a bit silly. I've been shot to death more than once because auto aim refused to turn around and fire at that guy right behind me pumping me full of lead. They also got rid of some useful information that used to float at the top right side of the screen. Cash, time of day, and you life are all missing from that area. You life is now represented by a green semicircle around the map display on the lower left. I like the old version much better. Time of day and your cash can be checked by pausing the game, and they aren't needed at the top right, but I think I prefer to have them there. So far, the game has been a touch easier than San Andreas was, however, I'm taking my time to actually finish the game. I expect it to get harder soon. Not that this is a bad thing, as certain missions in San Andreas where terribly annoying to do. All in all this is certainly worth picking up. Just don't expect it to be San Andreas Part 2, it isn't. al0324
wished it was a SA part 2. BUT i gotta say the new cover system and gun aiming are LOADS better than any gta before that. that's been bugging me for a long time. Ever try to snipe in gta on the ps2? it was horrible! Undecided
Thrull , about the time of the day thing: just check your phone, it shows the time. And pushing down on the d-pad (on the xbox anyway) displays a bunch of information on the screen temporarily.

I know. And its a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. I just prefer to be able to see the time of day and a few other details at a glance without having to tap extra buttons. gamertvuk
Its funny how peoples opinions differ so much from each others. Personally i prefer to have the information hidden. I don't like having the cash etc all clogging up my screen. It's a far better viewing experience having it off the screen imo.

itconsumesme
While "out of the box", there is less to do than San Andreas, many, many objectives will open up later on. I'll quote the "other person" once more, just because they said it eloquently: There are cab missions you can do for Roman (similar to what past GTAs had, only there aren't "levels," you just do it to earn money). There are races to do for Brucie. Cars to steal for Brucie. Cars to steal from text messages. Vigilante missions. Most Wanted missions. Assassination missions. Drug Trafficking missions. Stunt Jumps. Random Encounters (side missions). There is still a TON to do. You just have to progress in the game a bit before everything opens up to you (just like in the past, if you want all the city open, you have to beat like 75% of the game's main missions). Things like fire and ambulance were removed, but Assassination and Most Wanted missions were added, and there's more a lot more car theft missions also (you get a set from Brucie via email, as well as like 30 cars from text messages). Drug Trafficking is also new. There is plenty of stuff that's added that really actually makes up for what was taken away from the previous games. And the newer features don't feel so "tacked on" as those before, they work quite coherently with the rest of the game. This game doesn't try to be "realistic", it is more "cinematic", compared to the cartoony universe of older GTA games. A lot of the things can't happen in real life, but they're never unimaginable... think of it as "Only in Hollywood", not "Only in Loony Tunes" anymore. GTA 4 is a whole new beast, and should be treated as such. Edited May 5, 2008 by itconsumesme
