Hey everyone i was just wondering why dont the show where the wtc (twin towers) used to be aka ground zero i just thought that would of been a good addition to the game --Jordan

because its not a replica of new york its just a similar city with lots of similar elements. its a vague copy really its still its own place though.

Why would you accuse him of wanting to make fun of 9/11? Thats an extreme accusation to pull. He just asked a question.

 

When I first played the game, I wondered about it, but then I realized that it isnt supposed to be an exact replica of NY.

It doesn't has WTC because it's not a New York replica, but a parody. Simply as that, not because bad taste or similar.

 

And then, why adding non-interesting ruins to the game and sacrifice "still-alive" buildings from it - I mean, how many real buildings were removed from NY to create Liberty, for the sake of having a playable (read "not boring") scenario?

I thought it would be an interesting idea, or if they built some memorial in the middle of it but can you imagine how much controversy they'd get as soon as they mentioned it? As soon as they said it was NY a few people were saying you could reenact 9/11

Thats not a reference . If it was a the closing of the bridges could've been a reference to a bus explosion in baghdad too .

9/11 is a terrorist attack. One of many.

Terrorist attack references aren't always about 9/11.

There more of a sattirical view on the govt. blaming controversial or stupid decisions on "protecting us from terrorism". Probably the biggest scape goat we've seen since the "the communists are coming" age of mcarthyism.

From a design standpoint, planes wouldn't make any sense at all. It's just one city with one airport, so there's no need to use a plane to get around.

In one of the political attack ads on TV, there is another thinly veiled reference to 9/11, when the announcer says something like "he has forgotten about the recent tragic events" or "after the recent tragic events in Liberty City" with a picture of the American flag waving in the background. I can't remember exactly what was said except that it managed to simultaneously indicate exactly what it was referring to (9/11) and not actually say what they are referring to. Of course, the intent behind the reference is to parody politicians (mostly Republicans, it seems) who make constant references to 9/11 to serve their personal political agendas.

 

All that said, I can imagine lots of different things that could be done in this game with those two giant holes in the ground and miscellaneous idle construction equipment which the WTC has become today. Considering all the memorials GTA has let you traipse about in in the past games, I see no reason for special treatment here.

Taking any reference to the event is not at all a surprise, and I suppose it's in fair taste.

 

To bring it up, once again... that's why i want a PC VERSION.

 

If you have poor taste, as I do, you want those buildings back just to throw some jets into them. Or.. choppers, pre-airplane mod.

 

Seeing as how there are already miss-placed WTC buildings mods for the last three GTAs, someone is bound to make one for IV.

 

Though I'd rather see a new Stunt Park.

Yeah i agree, at first i have to be honest i thought R* were just using the "design and gameplay" factor as an excuse saying it would be pointless but now that i've had my experience with it im glad theres no planes....Seriously the map is pretty big considering the amount of small details that we have all now experienced...yet its not as massive as SA. So just imagine getting into a plane on one end of the map and cruising across?? It would jsut be a quick skip across and it would even make the map 'feel' smaller than it really is. The copter gives you the freedom to fly yet it doesn't speed across fast enough to give you that feeling of a small map and to be honest in SA you had open places to sky dive off planes and lots of wastelands but you reaaallly wouldnt fly around in the city in ajet :S its bad enough with a helicopter when the blades hit the buildings but you would feel limited and restricted while flying in a plane that youll just be forcd to do laps of the island
