TheRoper
Ok, so I've got 3 hard drives: 1 internal 80Gb (C:), 1 internal 400Gb (D:), and 1 external 80Gb (G:). I only have my OS (Win XP) on the C drive, I never install or download anything to that drive, I put it all on my 400 Gig. I have 50Mb of free space on my C drive. WTF? I don't ever use it, I don't ever get XP updates (), and I don't really even have that many programs in general. I ran disk cleanup and CCleaner yesterday, and that got it up to 1.5Gb free space, but now it's back to 50Mb. What do I do? $$$ MAKE MONEY WITH NEOBUX $$H
Saget
Hmm... Virtual ram? Too many temp files? Wait, I suppose CCleaner covers that, right... You know what? I suggest you download this piece of wonder and use it well =) Edited May 4, 2008 by Saget |DeviantArt|Flickr|YouTube|#amf|
anus
Could be the page file eating up space like Saget said. I think it's System Restore though, the longer you use your PC for, the more space it uses because it has to create 'snapshots' of the PC in different states/times. So try turning System Restore off. Right click My Computer>Properties>System Restore>Check 'Turn off System Restore' and you're done.

Check the size of the files pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys. My pagefile.sys is at 2.3GB The hiberfil.sys file is used to store the files that are kept in the RAM memory while your computer hibernates, if you ever set it to that. You can deactivate that, I guess, even though the size of the file will always be the ammount of RAM you got (unless you got some nasty virus that's capable of changing that). |DeviantArt|Flickr|YouTube|#amf|

I wouldn't d that System Restore can be a lifesaver at times, I'd go into Disk Cleanup and then click on the other tab (can't remember the name of it off the top of my head) and there is an option to delete all but the most recent of Restore Points. You could also spend a little time checking through some folders to see what size is within them, the main ones to try are My Documents (all folders within, especially Music and Pictures, you'd be surprised about how much space pictures takes up) Program Files (Go through it and see what programs you don't use or what games you don't play and remove them) You could also try running a defrag, if you've got a defragger that can run off-line (like Raxco Perfectdisk) then run that as sometimes Windows tries to be all 'nice' and increase your page file to something stupidly huge, running an off-line defrag (as in it defrags before that Windows VGA Loading screen when you turn on your computer) will reduce it back to where it should be. I think it could be to do with the amount of programs you have as Windows does like to have everything on the C:\ drive.
TheRoper
My Documents (all folders within, especially Music and Pictures, you'd be surprised about how much space pictures takes up) lol, how 'bout 50+ gigs of .mpg files..? Long time ago we had a lot of vandalism near my house so we set up security cameras. Saved the recorded videos on my PC through my TV-tuner card. Completely forgot about them. So yeah, thanks guys. edit: Deleted 'em and emptied the Recycle Bin, still only gave me about 8 Gigs free..? edit2: Give it time Roper! About 9.3 now, and climbing. I can see my undelete software (recycle bin replacement) is running at 90% CPU, so it's obviously working on removing 'em. Thanks again everyone. TheRoper
Thanks wolf, but I found it (see above post)... It took a little bit to completely delete them, but now I've got about 60 free gigs! $$$ MAKE MONEY WITH NEOBUX $$H
