Brand New, but not working?

I just bought the game today at best buy but I think something is seriously wrong.

 

I put the disk in and it automatically loads, from there it says that it is installing to the hard drive. this take about 10 minutes, then a new screen comes up with screen shots from the game for a few seconds. After this loads a black screen comes up and in the bottom right hand corner the words "STARTING A NEW GAME" appear in white. This is the problem, the actual game never loads from this point. It is just frozen in this state

 

I have restarted the game, the system, I have deleted the game utility and let it re-install itself completely, but nothing works?

 

Any help? Is the game defective?

You'd do well to log out of the Playstation Network; if you're a PS3 owner, of course.

mine just randomly started doing that today aswell but I'm nearly half way through the game. Dunno what to do.

mine did also i tried a few things and they didnt work but it loaded when i disconnected the internet so try that

Me exactly the same, It saved after one of mcgrearies missions, then I tried to connect to multiplayer, it froze and now I can't get back on the game, it just keeps sayig its continuesly loading, meh.

It's definitely the multiplayer which is causing practically all of the PS3 freezing. I bought a new 40gb ps3 and GTA bundle and it was fine on launch day when nobody could connect to the server, but as soon as you could connect even though you would almost always lose connection with the other players it started locking up.

 

Not surprised considering PSN is a heap of f*cking sh*te, but there we go. Hopefully there'll be a a fix for this soon. There f*cking better be.
