Gangs in 4 suck

Is it me or do the gangs in 4 plain out suck. I mean La Costra Nostra for example. We know of 6 Families but I think we only see 2 of them in the enitire game and they suck compared to Leones, Forellis and Sindaccos.

 

Yes we know LC is based of NYC but NY has hundreds of gangs but in 4 there is no true representation of street gangs. I mean there are Bloods, Crips, GDs, Latin Kings and MS-13 in NY so why weren't they represented in 4 by gangs based off them? Also I thought a gang based of MS-13 was confirmed or at least mentioned a very long time ago and it was on this site and they were called C-11 aka Carta Once.

 

I mean GTA4 is great but I think it's the same as it's been. I mean it took a couple steps back in my book by the removal of certain things but it also took a couple steps foward by adding a couple things. I mean to be honest I think the people on this board when we really knew nothing about GTA 4 and had all the great speculation about the game wouldv'e made a better game then what GTA 4 actually turned out to be.

 

It could've been turf wars and even though Niko isn't in a gang he's a damn hitman for christ sake and he could've been hired to do hits on rival gangs. I mean there was just so much I hoped was going to be in GTA 4 that didn't show up or showed up to a little extent. I mean this is like SA. When I read all the great stuff that was going to be in SA and read all the speculation just to see that alot had been taken out upset me. Now SA is still my favorite game of all time and 4 is a close second but I think if 4 just had just alot of the stuff people were hoping( customizable weapons, customizable cars, customizable houses, better friendship system becuase let's all be honest the way it is in 4 is no way anybody really expected it to be, better plot branching etc.)

 

As I've said and I don''t want any hate because I know there have been hundreds of upset gamers who feel that 4 was a letdown and have made countless topics but I'm not like that. I'm not saying 4 was a bad game and as I've said it's my 2nd favorite of all time behind SA it was just a letdown to expectations.

I agree with you, I'm disappointed as well. Rockstar should've focused much more on gangs in Liberty City as well as crime. Walking through South Bohan or the firefly projects seems way too safe. I was hoping very much that I'd have that sense of fear when walking through a bad area.

 

At night, nothing happens, no gang shootings, no driveybys, no muggings, no fights. and half the time you never see any gangs. You always have to start with them to get any type of reaction. I was hoping to see gangs and thugs walking the streets at night beating people up, shootings, etc, to give me that sense of fear. What ever happened to all the magazines that said you're just a small fish in a big pond? Several magazines said a while back that you won't want to be found in certain parts of the city.

 

In terms of crime, very very little occurs. I'm hugely disappointed. I do realize that New York City's crime is a lot lower but Libery City which is loosely based off of New York is basically a made up city, so they could've made it as seedy as they wanted it to be. Libery City which was quote on quote supposed to be "Rife with Crime" I read in several magazines that you're going to see alot of arrests taking place, The only arrest I've seen so far was a fight that Niko started and the police were nearby so they arrested the guy. In San andreas you could see random police chases in a cop car, I haven't even seen that once.

 

I wanna hear and see police and ambulance sirens drive by, not just a very faint siren in the background.

IMO Having Liberty City filled with crime in a living, breathing city would've made the game that much better. I can go on and on about things in GTA4 that I'm very disappointed like not being able to open trunk, a blurry background, no bicycles, no parachutes, It just seems as thought alot of the features that were supposed to be in GTA4 were either removed or toned down. Liberty seems as though it's lacking something, it just seems boring, as though there's not much to do.

 

Still, I feel that GTA4 is a great game and I do enjoy it considering it's on a new console with better graphics, hopefully we'll see alot of the features that were cut in the next GTA

I paid $60, you did pay $10 too much, return it and get Saint's Row2...when it's out.

 

I'm not bothered in the slightest, though I can see SOME logic to the complaints... Overall this is a major step up facelift. A new engine, improved AI and the more I play, the better the car mechanics are to me... The bikes are not so much so

Man this game was stripped down but naked, GTA was and always has been about Gangs. Cant fill the emptiness of the game with cool graphics or whatever.

And yeah im gonna moan and complain, I paid 70 bucks for this sh*t. The next gta that comes out, Im renting first.

True, the game does feel empty, I still feel that the game was worth it's money though and I bought the special edition version from amazon.

I like the gangs in GTA 4, they got Russians, Italians, Irish, Blacks, Chinese, Jamaicans, Bikers, etc. But I wish they were a bit more prominent and that there was more crime in the revamped LC. Someone made a great point about police chases missing in 4 from San Andreas. I agree

Not for me, Steets gangs will never become played out and I'm sure most people feel the same way. Without steet gangs it just won't feel like GTA.

The only complaint I would prefer the most, and all the others are nit picking...

 

Is that they tend to start things on the street after dark. I walk into clusters of gangs who are typically grouped on street corners and push past them, then take out a bat or gun...knife, whatever and start something more aggressive. After getting drunk with Roman, I kept pushing a guy or two and then three ganged up on me... You can steal a gang car as well and they come out in defense

It would be good if the gangs had proper names, instead of being known by their nationalities. One thing I like about gangs is reading into their background.

Gangs are a huge part of every city wether it's a gang like Bloods, a criminal orginization like the Mafia or a crew of drug dealers like Nicky Barnes and The Magnificent 7.

 

NY is rife with criminals but I think of all the GTAs 4 had the worst representation of them all together. Los Santos is the most life like in my m ind of all the GTA cities because it represented how gang pressence really is in cities to some extent and I was expecting R* to upgrade on that but they truly downgraded.

Maybe R* were sick of making gangs a focal point, and decided to turn the attention on the main character, and supporting characters?

 

Also past GTAs relied heavily on gangs throughout the game. Especially SA.

 

GTA IV doesn't seem to have a gang orientated theme. IMO

They didn't have to make them a focal point but they should've made them have a better pressence. LC is based of NY but to be honest it didn't feel like NY at all and I live in NY. I remember they were saying you were supposed to feel threatend in certain areas and should be scared at dark but that element was never there.

 

To be honest R* is lime Peter Molyneux( The Fable guy) who promisies so much in their game which sounds lime it will just be the best game ever but is then taken out of the game altogether to represented by a little fraction of how they said it would be.

 

They did the same thing with SA by saying so much great stuff was going to be in game but it was taken out or represented just a little. I mean 4 coud've and should've had all the great things that were supposed to be in SA but weren't and updated on them.

 

I think R* made 4 the way it was on purpose to be more plain like 3 was but will add a crap load of things in the next GTAs.

Yeah I was hoping it gave you that "scared" feeling like in previous GTAs, but I feel completely safe when walking through dark alleys or pushing off of a group of people.

 

GTA III I was the most scared to drive around especially walk around. The triads area was bad... you were most likely to get your car shot at for even driving down the street. After your dealings with Salvatore, St. Marks is off limits. Shotguns blasting all the time, with only 2 shots and its exploded... so you driving fast as hell or avoid it completely.

 

Vice City with the Hatians was a bad area too.

 

San Andreas seemed toned down a bit compared to the last two but nothing to be afraid of driving through the Ballas area.

 

In GTA IV I wasn't expecting the crazyness in GTA III but I did expect there to be a distinct group of gangs all over the city you could easily pick out by driving down the road. That when I parked my car and came back 2 minutes later it'd be stolen...or someone trying to run up to my car and jack me. I need to really agitate people to start fights with them..throwing bricks at them or pushing them frequently (if they haven't already ran away).
