low frame rates and blurry graphics are causing

- eye strain

- headaches

anything below 20 fps is a health risk rampage_ani.gif

GTA4 regularly drops down to around 10 fps

i encourage my kid to play video games

but not this one

rockstar - fix it soon or I fear you will end up in court

Unless he's actually doing a real benchmark test on it, he's full of himself.

Granted when a lot of smoke and particle effects are in play (most notable in multiplayer freeroam) it does slow down, however at the same time the REFRESH RATE of the monitor/TV is what damages eyes, not framerate.

I believe he got you there, OP.

I had a BIG TIME frame loss when I crashed by a pier/park/water area with a bunch of benches and people around (I believe it was close to Michelle's place).

It must have been a block or two of me crashing into stuff at top speed and the frame rate dropped to a crawl. Besides that I haven't had more than one or two mini slow-downs (lets not mention the prior freezing).

to see the frame rate more clearly simply spin on the spot

and look in the distance

is it jerky or smooth?

halo 3 and burnout are smooth

gta4 is jerky

and in many situations it drops to around 10 fps

RE: "I believe he got you there, OP."

come on please - a 4 fps video running on 120 hz display

is still a 4 fps video ... if it is jerky it hurts the eyes

As far as headache and eyestrain goes the framerate will not make a difference. The other guy was correct in that it is the refresh rate alone that could give you a headache, and is obviously constant on your TV at probably 50 or 60Hz.

Your argument about 4fps is silly and demonstrates that you simply do not understand this subject.

You do realize that the game loads over 100 objects per sec.? Even so, the Xbox 360 can EASILY handle that. Do you think Rockstar would release a game that runs at 10 frames a second? You are obviously lying, or your Xbox 360 has been overheating. Overheating screws up the RAM, which loads and processes items.

now i am never normally one to nitpick (i hate it when people do it to me) but it did make me laugh when you said you encourage your kid to play games. im assuming your kid is under 18 so you probably shouldnt be encouraging them to play this game.

Once again i don't normally pick out things like that and i can't really comment on playing it under 18 as i have played gta since number 1 and i am only 18 now lol.

Back on the subject, i think rockstar might be able to fend off a few people trying to get compensation for eye strain if they have fended off all the sh*t they have had for being controversal. Besides all the consoles/games nowadays tell you to take regular breaks to prevent eye strain and other similar injuries.

and just so im not completely being an arsehole here, yes the xbox version does have the occasional frame rate issue.. not that its much to cause a problem.

Thats where your wrong. VDU usage has been wrongly accused for eye strains/head aches etc.

Excessive use of VDU's can lead to RSI, but generally VDU's arent harmful unless used in-correctly. There are many precautions you can take to avoid RSI/eye strains/headaches such as correct posture and posistioning of the VDU, ensuring theres no sun glare etc etc

So dont give me your low FPS is a health risk bull crap.

Do your research first.
