SleazeMonkey
Thought someone might be interested in seeing this, it's a tour of the DMA office in Dundee from 1996, just before GTA 1 came out... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7372117.stm X
FierceDeityIX
Nice, cheers. At the motion capture bit he says something like, "they're recording movement for future games". Surely this doesn't mean they were expecting to go 3D at this time?
jnzooger
They already were making 3D games at the time. The just didn't have the power to be so open ended and 3D at the same time.

Mainland Marauder
They already were making 3D games at the time. The just didn't have the power to be so open ended and 3D at the same time. Yeah, does anyone remember Body Harvest? (The N64 game, not the San Andreas mission) I'd say the will was there to create a GTA3-type game then, but there just wasn't a way. There was only so much that consoles of the 1990s could do. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." HASSARD1994
Thanks, that video was very interesting. That boy doing the motion capture made me laugh It's also pretty cool that the guys were making this game had no idea how successful the series would be
