Assuming the parents are cool with it, its cool. I would have to be sure my kid has their sh*t together or feel confident that they aren't consuming their entire lives with video games first. Then by all means they are mature enough to handle a violent video game.

If you live in a bubble, then ok, but if you live in the real world, don't dictate what other people can/cant do

Ditto. BUT, that's a violation of civil rights. I DO think it should be banned, but I think there should be stiff penalties for the parents of kids (under 18) that are found guilty of violent crimes.

I meant a violation of the parent's rights to raise their children as they want. Playing GTA doesn't violate anyone else's civil rights, so parent's should be allowed to let their kids buy them. BUT, parents should have stiff punishments when their kids do something wrong. It's the parents' responsibility to know if their kid is bringing a shotgun to school. There are no excuses for that. If my kids ever did that, I'd take 100% of the blame. Set me on death row.

Most of the ignorant/rude people on multiplayer who act gangsta are like 14 and therefor they shouldn't be allowed to play the game until they mature some. I find it funny they act gangsta online and most likely in RL they are some timid/shy artard.

I think young people are a more mature than a lot of people give them credit for. I think GTA IV would be fine if the young person has their full faculty of thought processing, perception of reality, social connectivity, mental and emotional stability.

 

I think young people are exposed to so much that escapism into a game world like GTA is not all bad.

 

I think if your not all there, then your not all there. A person like that should probably be getting appropriate support rather than left in front of a console or TV because it is the easy option.

I would say no. There are plenty of people who are older than 18 who still can't handle this kind of material, or most any social situation for that matter.

 

Plus, I can't be a hypocrite I was playing the original when I was 12... Back in 1997 that was some pretty racy stuff for a video game.

Yeah I'm on this boat as well. Parents should take the blame these days. We are all intelligent enough to realize there is no real connection between video games and violent crimes. Bad parenting is the real problem. There should be a license to breed. A lot of people who have kids don't even understand the concept of being a parent.

The rational center of the brain isn't even fully developed until the low to mid twenties. Again, it goes onto parents (and is the reason the US government allows parents to claim 'children' as dependents as long as they're still in school/college/etc., regardless of age).

When you start playing these games @ younger ages you develop a sense of being 'invincible' even in the real life. Even if you don't think it changes your personality it does. As you grow older is has less effect on your personality as it does when you're younger.

Even though a 12 or 13 year old will not go steal a car probabley because of this, it will have consequences(sp) later in their life. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone, but id say at least 70% of them out there. Mostly trailer trash but who knows.

The answer is no. Anyone under 18 should NOT be allowed to play this game.
