CrazeLaze
Now I'm on the second Island After Romans house was set on fire, And I already have 10 grand in my pocket... Perhaps there is some other meaning to this phrase, not releated to money?
NoBigThing
I figured, and I hoped, that it would be difficult to come around with your money. The toll system on the freeway could have been quite cool but right now it's useless and annoying because you won't feel the 5 bucks but you'd so much rather speed up than to stop in the middle of the street but you also don't want a hassle with the cops. It would have been cool if say every 5 bucks counted in order for you to accomplish stuff and it would actually be a bit of a pain to have to pay the 5 bucks yet I don't even have problems buying expensive guns or sh*t. I would so much rather work in order to get to go to a pay and spray. Right now I'm just not looking at my money because I have enough anyways. Too bad, but my Niko is a rich man and he shouldn't be. The mission rewards are way too high and I think there should be a majority of missions where he doesn't earn money but he just does it for the sake of himself and his cousin and friends, because he'd have no other choice to do those missions. This gameplay element could have been better worked out and the overall game would have been cooler if it was.

inveni0
Ten thousand (10,000) dollars is not a lot of money. That is poor as dirt. $10000 would last someone who lives like Niko 4-6 months. So, kill people for two weeks, then take 6 months off....hmmmm....sounds like 'the life' to me.

SantiagoDomingo
Yeah right. Lets see hear. First off, you are working for Roman, who has no money either. You have to pay rent, utilities, pay for damages to your vehicles (taxis), pay loan sharks, pay for food, pay for clothes, pay for gas, pay for guns, pay for bullets, ten grand is a little buffer. Sorry, but I haven't seen Niko OR Roman pay for the rent. I haven't had to pay for gas at all. I haven't paid up to any loan sharks. I haven't even paid for guns and ammo! If they want us to interpret us like we have to use this money to come around, then I think money should go off our account on a daily or weekly basis or someting. Cause now it's stacking up and you can say but hey I got a rent to pay but why do I not pay anything at all then? I'm telling you, it's made too easy to get money and it shouldn't have been that way, it's just not how they promoted it.

CrazeLaze
Also, I just want to add, What's the point of the cash machines? It seems all you can do is check you balance. But you could do that any way, using down on the D-Pad.

Either give us less money so that we have to think about it (as a real life Niko would), or give us property to buy.

How do you not pay for guns and ammo, unless you just get by with what you find... I have a strange obsession of always needing to have all my guns, well most anyway, topped off with the max capacity of bullets. It's been like that in all GTAs lol. I pay loan sharks (lenders, heh) and food, and clothes, and everything else needed to keep my family alive. Even if we had to double that, for Niko to survive, it's still too easy to get that money. I think THAT'S the main point.

It's been like that in all GTAs lol. I Like to do the same thing. Well at least for body Armor, Shotgun, MP5, sniper rifle, grenades and the M4. That way when sh*t hits the fan in a mission you don't have to worry about conserving anything.
Loxley1
Money means nothing in this game. The only time ive even looked at how much money ive had was when I first went to buy clothes and it said I never had enough. Since then I go to the gun shop after most missions and fully reload everything without running out. Wether you have 5000 or 1000000 it means nothing as you can buy wtf ever you want with 5000. GTASIX
30K wont buy you alot of stuff. If you spend it on clothes and weapons and health. EDIT - come to think of it thats everything you can buy isn't it? OK 30k on weapons wont last long.
Master TJ
Yep. Rockstar utterly failed in the money department, again. NOTHING to buy. Once you finish that mission with the 250K reward, you never even have to look at your money again. You will alwayas have enough for anything you need. DLC better enable some sh*t to buy. The only thing you actually spend money on is healthcare when you die. Its the most expensive thing in the game.
NinjaJones
I think they meant that you won't go from a crappy run down shack to a mansion as in other GTAs. Money-wise what else could they do? What type of reward can you think of that would for every mission other than money? Mainly it's there just to buy ammo and pay for various stuff I guess after you finish the storyline (so you can keep playing without cheats) buying weapons/food/taxi rides/heli-tours/etc. I'm sure there will be more features in the next GTA to spend money on. Remember GTA IV is to GTAIII as GTAIII was to the 2D GTAs. Both re-inventions of the series...once they get used to making GTA that way it will have more and more just as the GTA III series did. (Bigger/more detailed maps, more weapons, more vehicles, more to do...and more things to spend money on.) Personally I hope they don't bring back buyable safehouses. I think a good idea would to be able to rent a motel/hotel room/suite. You can pay once and that room would be good to save/sleep, save a car, use as a safehouse for 24 in-game hours. EDIT: Turned it into a topic --Topic-- Edited May 8, 2008 by fishing4monkeys
TheDude5000
They said that, and they were wrong. When you unlock the Algonquin safehouse, it's this really awesome apartment. Very expensive stuff in there. Huge. In this tall building, too. Really nice lobby. Then if you take Playboy X's place, it's incredible. You have your own doorman in the lobby, and his place is huge. There's even an outdoor area, with a f*cking HOT TUB! The apartment itself has a huge flatscreen TV on the wall, and a bunch of other nice looking stuff. This has to be the best safehouse since Vercetti's Mansion. The second best savehouse in any GTA. Believe me, you're gonna get some nice stuff/places in GTA IV. Look at Romans first apartment, then look at what you're living in during the Algonquin missions. Rags to better rags? I don't think so!
Ottae
I think by the phrase "Rags to slightly better rags" means that by the end of the story, you don't own Liberty City like you owned Vice City by the end of well, Vice City. You can't go round and buy all the buildings or buy a mansion, the best you get is the apartment in Algonquin or Playboy X's penthouse, depending on your decision . So you may have lots of money, but you can't go and buy everything with it.

AntiPersonnel
Theres not enough to spernd your money on either Thats one thing that needs improving for the next game, perhaps the option to buy a car if you want to. it would be cool if there were special version/colors of the cars that can only be obtained by special order (buying them) that way you could spend your excess of money on cool stuff, but still not have to be required to. franko3219
My hope, as mentioned before, is that the DLC makes it available to go into more buildings, and spend your money on various items and buidlings. I mean this is based off of NYC and I am sure their is plenty more to do in NYC then steal cars, buy clothes, and buy guns. I also wish that if you could not spend it in the game, you could use it in MP.
