paranoid.pj
I'm in a unique situation regarding this: I have both found the option to increase the size, and not been able to find the option. I truly believe it is a HD option, because here are the circumstances: on Tuesday my friend was doing a story for the local paper about GTAIV so he invited me over to do some gameplay demoing for him and be interviewed. Here's the important part: I brought MY Xbox to his house, and connected it using his HDMI cables to his 1080i HDTV. We couldn't read the cellphone, I went looking through options and found it, thinking "wow, I can't believe I didn't notice this at home." So then I went home, connected my Xbox back to my standard def TV using component cables, and the option is no longer there. The only difference in the set up is the TV and the cables connecting the Xbox, and I can tell you that at his house there is definitely an option to enlarge the text size, and at my house there definitely isn't. I know someone's going to ask, I only have the standard first phone that Roman gives you.
rocknrollsoul
some of you people are dicks. Firstly I'm a student and the flat I stay in dosen't have HD TV, i'm SO SORRY! back home I do. Secondly, I got my copy from GAME and its the standard mobile phone at the beginning that I am using. I have posted before aswell as the other guy in this discussion what I am only seeing on my screen. So the only thing it seems to be is that it dosen't have it on my copy? Thats seems weird. So problem solved, it's only on HD then, cause I don't have it and I play SD, unless someone who playes SD can comfirm he has it, I guess it's solved. Oh just ignore the douchebags. I don't think it's a problem with your game, I think it is because you're using a standard definition television. Is it really that bad, I'm using a standard definition television and it's not pretty but I can read it. The other option is, does your computer monitor have DVI inputs, and if so would it be convenient to hook your system up to that? Because the monitor will be able to display in HD, you can get HDMI-DVI cables, that's what I'm doing this evening to increase the quality. Supernautus
lets think, Ringtone text doesn't make any sense as an option, why not check if perhaps Text is a separate option, where you find text size
rocknrollsoul
lets think, when i select this it only highlights it as one option and when I press down it goes onto the keypad tone option. so lets think, maybe its to do with the HD tv. lets think eh
Supernautus
well, it's in mine, pretty sure that it wouldn't be missing from some copies, seeing as all copies are the same, it's not got anything to do with the upgrade either, because I have the first phone. Just pointing out that ringtone text makes no sense as an option, the option would still be selectable even without a HDTV, can you see all the keys on the phone when you bring it up, if you can then you're seeing the whole phone, it is there, it wouldnt change depending on the type of TV you have Edited May 2, 2008 by Supernautus
kipcab
Right, i've just plugged my 360 into my HDTV downstairs and the option is there and works fine.... I then took the 360 upstairs and tried it on my normal TV and can confirm THE OPTION IS STILL THERE So either these people saying they cant see the option are (a) lying (b) looking in the wrong place or © winding us up

How did you connect to each TV?
Supernautus
what would the cables have to do with something programmed into the game, the game doesn't know what cables you have plugged in so the option which is coded into the game would not disappear based on your cables, pretty sure you're lying now, because you're grasping at straws as to a reason why it's missing

I get my thrills off lying about the menu options in a cell phone in a video game to random people on the web. I am the saddest human ever! What I said is the absolute truth. My Xbox, with my disc, when connected with a HDMI cable to a HD set, has an option for enlarging the cell phone text. My Xbox, with my disc, when connect with component cables to a SD set, does not have the option.
Supernautus
Ok maybe you're not lying, but you've got to admit it seems a little odd, how can the option be missing if it's coded into the game, it has to be there somewhere, it doesn't make any sense for it to be missing. especially if it's there on your HDTV Edited May 2, 2008 by Supernautus
kipcab
cell phone? You're American aren't you?! - maybe its a UK thing then, the option therefore isn't in your game!

I don't know, you don't think the machine can feed back to the game what sort of signal it's delivering to the TV? That seems really reasonable to me. I mean otherwise there's something else up, because like I said it was my xbox and my disc that I hooked up using my buddies cables. The only other difference between the time I could find the option and the time I couldn't was that I wasn't connected to Xbox Live when I could find it, and that seems even more unlikely to mean anything. I don't know, maybe it's a random glitch? I'll keep looking, if I ever see it again I'll post back to this thread.
Supernautus
the thing is, even if the game fed back information, surely the one option they would know not to remove, is the large text one, especially since the people who need larger text are those with a standard definition tv
1shot1kill
So much drama for something that is very simple: If your console has it's display settings set to HD resolutions it will have the option, if you console is set to SD resolutions it will not have the option, it's not copies of the game not having the option, it's not the TV it's connected to, it's simply the setting in the console that makes the game show that option or not. Wait, here's a thought - maybe the large text mode is turned on by default if you have standard def and the ability to turn it off is taken away. How could we compare this? I'll also go home and switch the SD/HD switch on my cables and see if that changes anything over my lunch break.
Supernautus
that is a possibility, but there would, most likely, be no way to check that, maybe if you set your 360 to display in standard definition on your HDTV but I don't know if that would display the text in the same size as large in HD or if it would look as small as it does on a standard TV. Kutters
i have xbox and a SD tv and i do not have the option on my phone either. i read about it the other day, so when i got a text message last night it reminded me to look for it. i came to the conclusion that whoever had said there was an option to enlarge the text on the phone was incorrect, seeing as i dug through the phone inside and out and could not find that option. now i come on here today and it's a huge controversy. it's weird, to say the least, but not THAT big of a deal. everyone should calm down before i kick everyones ass for real
1shot1kill
Ok, read my post above please, all this nonsense is not needed if you just read. The game shows the menu if your console it's display settings are on HD, it does not display it if the display settings are on SD, you can try putting it on 5000 different tv's, as long as you do not change the display option in the console to HD the game will not give you the option. It's not rocket science people.

I guess the game is indeed clever enough to know what screen rez its being played in. Edited May 2, 2008 by Talon2000uk

Knife
who really cares about mobile phone text size? if you dont have then you dont have it deal with it its not the end of the world It's pretty crucial to the game that you can read the text and people with smaller TV's are having problems.
