Right first of all, if your gunna post a one line reply slagging me off, don't bother, I won't read it. If you're going to counter the points I make with reasonable arguments, good on you.

Anyway, I have to say I am slightly disappointed with GTA IV, it's a great game don't get me wrong and I'm enjoying the story mode (currently half way through). But I can't help thinking I was expecting a bit more, 10/10 would suggest this game was miles ahead of any other, is it ? To me it just seems like the old GTA with updated graphics and a nice physics engine, there are a little new touches but nothing major. We were promised a 'living breathing city', there are a lot of pedestrians I'll grant you that, but they aren't very interesting unfortunately, they'll all react in the same way which is, when you walk into them they'll stop, drop whatever they were holding, give you a glare and a insult, and walk off.

The 'nightlife' as such was disappointing as well, I imagined a street filled with clubs and pubs filled with drunk ped's starting random fights and generally having a good time, with clubs filled with people and loud music, just like you'd see in any town centre around the country on a friday night. But no, it's just, dead. There's only about a dozen places you can enter, all the bars and clubs require you to go in with a mate, the game's are quite tedious and the drinking scene you don't even see the interior of the bar ! Just the 'drunk effect' afterwards. I'll be honest, I was expecting around 25% of all buildings to be accessible.

Shootings nice. But there just doesn't seem an awful lot to do really while roaming the streets, can start a fight/shoot-out with people, get a wanted level then run away. Then there's the several stunt jumps and pigeon shooting etc.. I expected gangs of thugs roaming the streets, especially at night, and YOU'D actually get approached sometimes and mugged, rather than everything having to be started by you.

Another annoying feature was I heard before hand the environment was destructible, is it ? I did a mission where I had to a escape from a building, I was at the back and there was a window boarded up with a few wooden planks, I thought great, I'll just shoot through them and make a quick exit. Wrong, the bullets rebounded off and I was forced to go out the front door where envitabely loads of cops will be.

All in all I was left disappointed, I know it's partly down to my own fault for expecting to much, but I can't help but think we got mislead by a few previews. I'd probably give this an 8.5/10.

i kinda know and understand what you saying. we were promised too much. and in online free mode the fact we cant play the minigame and drink with m8s online its a very bad negative point.

well, i hope in gta5 they listen ot the community more.

hmmm...I don't intend to be a prick with this reply.

I think that it was a naive move to expect some of the things you imagined... 25% buildings for example that seemed highly unreasonable in an environment/sand box type of game like GTA...Most of your "ideas" seemed highly doubtful to begin with so I think next time don't have an imagination like your 8 smile.gif

Again I did not intend on being a dick... Just wanted to point something out from MY viewpoint thats all.

You make some fair points.

I think we were "promised" a little too much and the game became seen as some sort of holy grail.

I would agree with you and conclude that it's basically just GTA3 with updated graphics and a few extra bells and whistles.

It is however the best game in its genre and in my opinion the best game currently available on any platform.

I have to admit, im feeling the same here

With all the hype, amazing reviews and eveything leading up to it, i guess i just expected something amazingly out of this world, but in reality, its just a updated (but still very good) version of the same old GTA, minus some of the old fun stuff, but many new things. I guess we just expected too much, but still, im not saying its a rubish game, i LOVE it! but i just expected more.

I sort of agree. I'm not sure where all these 10's are coming from. Absolutly superb game, but 10? Probably not.

Not exactly. There is at some rate.

And he made a valid point. There should at least be a pinned thread to bitch in. Nobody cares about how disappointed people are, and neither do i.

What did you expect? I hate to break people's balls, but I never thought this game was going to be revolutionary. Why? Well, how can you revolutionize the formula? You can't.

25% buildings accessible? That would have been cool, but I never believed for a second there would be many buildings one could access. It just didn't seem possible and I was right this time.

Also, as a side note, I was randomly attacked b a civilian, I've seen shootouts between cops and some random douches, I've seen cars break down and the driver get out and pop the hood, and many other things. These things do happen- you just have to wait and look. Also, as for gangs of thugs....this isn't SA. Gangs of thugs couldn't be walking around and crime in Liberty City is at an all-time low.

Im a bit dissapointed too. Sure its fun and the cut scenes and dialog are hilarious. But i was expecting so much more with all that hype.

Although i just started the game, im hoping it'll get better once i unlock Algonquin.

Hey, all of the things the OP posted, I was expecting them too!

I hate how my car is always still there when I left him in a crowded area. Why does no one ever steal my car?

I also hoped to be able to have a drink and a chat in the bars with friends. I also hoped (and thought it would be possible) to go in to more buildings and do more stuff.

The pedestrians could be better too. Sure, they have multiple different reactions but all are pretty general and nothing surprising and not too many either.

I love GTA4 and I wouldn't break it down but it does have shortcomings. I don't think it's worth all those 10s, but a 9 for sure.

You sir, are a f*cking moron. It even says in the topic title that I think it's a good game. I can't understand why all of you get so defensive when someone isn't amazed by it, I never said it wasn't good, infact I think it's great, I just expected more.

And it's not like I'm the only one judging by other replies, I appreciate the people who actually switched their brain on when they made a post.

I wouldn't call it revolutionary, but I don't remember anyone else calling it that either. For me, the scores (out of 100%) indicate how essential it is for me to play the game. GTA IV is by far the best open world crime game, regardless of whether or not it's "revolutionary", so judging by that alone, I'd say everyone should at least try this game. It's essential. Which is why I feel it deserves 10/10.

First, 25% of buildings would be dumb. It would have been a lot of work, and 98% of gamers wouldn't have explored more than 2% of that 25%. I have no interest at all in going into a bunch of buildings. If 25% of them could be entered, I would not spend hours trying to find them.

Second, I've had lots of peds pick fights with me. Sometimes I fight back. Sometimes I run. Sometimes I call the cops. It's awesome.

Third, I understand the destructibility argument. But they never said 'destructible'. They said that you could damage some things. I've seen concrete crack and things like that. Also, trash bags and stuff explode on impact. Sure, this is hardly the destructibility a next-gen game should offer. It would be cool to shoot out windows and escape that way. Maybe in a future GTA?

I don't think the game is a 10, but it's above a 9, I'd say.

When there was a game coming out that seemed to be the best thing since sliced bread, I would be all over the forums looking for information. That would build hype. I would be disappointed.

The formula for enjoying your game:

1. Find out the release date.

2. Release the game from your mind.

Hype is what makes you disappointed. GTA IV is an awesome game because I made it that way. A real game can't compete with the masterpiece in your mind.

Nicely put.

The game was a bit over-hyped. In one interview a R* employee said the game was as revolutionary as the switch to 3d with GTA3. From a players perspective, this just isn't the case.

On the other hand, ever detail big or small has been updated and improved.

I would still give the game a 10, games don't need to be revolutionary to get a perfect score.

Fair complaints.

Not everything was 'in your head' hype.

There was talk about a living breathing city - when infact its a prettier version of older cities with the same AI for the NPC's

There was also talk of never seeing the same person twice! Thats hilarious.

10/10 as many people give it suggests perfection, if promised features never arrive then it cant possibly be.

None of this bothers me in the slightest though.

ya theres a lot of little things that cud have been improved. one thing i wa totally surprised with is that you STILL CANT ROB ARMORED TRUCKS! you dont even get a wanted level. also i hate how theres so many phone numbers that you cant call. like on the autoeroticar website theres a bunch of phone numbers listed next to cars and they dont work..

looks its easy the game never deserved 10 out of 10 but it was always going to get it due to the amount of people who absolutely love this game, it may not be revolutionary but this game offers people endless hours of gameplay, and a decent world to play in, what more could you have expected??? Its rockstar for gods sake.......

Wrong, Liberty City is based off of New York City but it's basically a made up city. Which means They could have made Liberty City as crime ridden as they wanted too. Magazines have said that quote "Liberty City if Rife with Crime" Which is what I was hoping to see. Gangs, thugs at night walking the streets, beating people up, prostitues and drug dealers walking around manhattan. fights breaking out, "A living breathing City" which is what I was hoping to see. I think GTA4 is a good game, but it's defenitely not revolutionary. The graphics are great but Rockstar should've focused on other aspects of the game that would've made the game much better then it is.
