AntKNOX
As I keep saying on here, I only miss 1 thing and that's the GYM. Touche my friend, Touche. I liked customizing my player as well (Tattoo Parlor/Barbershop) but the GYM is the one that annoys me the most.
SOFAkingWEtodiDD
The only thing i miss is the parachutes...I bought GTA SA on the ps2 but i picked it up for the PC when they released the SA:MP MOD.I think it would be sweet if you and your friends could parachute and BASE jump together on GTA 4. sillysax
Why do I keep posting on these forums? That was my first post ever on these forums, quit talking out your ass and maybe we can have a legitimate conversation sometime. I'm still trying to figure out what everyone is talking about when they say "realistic" was really all I was saying. I think the main quip that I have is that with every game this franchise has released, they always "added" something, but with this release they took things away. Whether they did this for "going in another direction" or simply didn't feel like writing the code for it, the bottom line is that they took away a lot of the fundamentals of what made this series great. Now a lot of you will say nay to that, I respect that, but imo, and even though I barely used anything of what the majority of people are talking about (character, vehicle customization, etc) it still remains as a fact that they took away a lot of what made the game fun, whimsical, comedic, etc. This was what made gta a good long game for me, not the fact that you steal cars or pick up hookers or get into a gang war, but the simple fact that you could get into a tank with a bazooka and run a rampage through town with cia helicopters and army men chasing you in an all out effort to take you down. This game seriously lacks the comedy in which I have grown to love in this series. And yes, I am enjoying the gta 4 storyline, but I often find myself wondering what I plan on doing endgame, (about 40% last I checked - just got done with playboy x, dwayne) I have already played enough darts, pool, and bowling to last a lifetime, been pulled over for drunk driving, picked up ladies of the night, and been to the strip club. Not to mention sat drollfully in front of a computer screen clicking links that do not work. My strict a.d.d. Is bored of this already and now I'm ignoring my friends and trying to complete the missions just to be done with it, which is like pretty much any other game out there right now which I was hoping gta would not force me to do. I have already accumulated about 30k and have absolutely nothing to spend it on, nothing to gamble it away, nothing to buy except guns and clothes. I could always get a car wash? Just my dime. evlnchow
Rockstar are in charge, they thought what they did what best. Its a new game, this isn't some kind of San Andreas remake. When will people ever get over planes? When? Well, R* makes the game so of course they're in charge, but consumer opinions matter too. After all, they make the game for US to play. If some people miss the planes then so be it, why does it even bother you.

Yes, going realistic is good, and going realistic has its ways of fun too. But one thing we can't deny is they've taken good things out of the series too, question is, why couldn't they incorporate them with the realistic features too? I don't see how they're mutually exclusive. Little things like the fact that I can't view the route of Brucie's races and I can't choose them like I did in SA annoy me- maybe R* thinks it's not realistic to be able to view and browse illegal underground races like that, but not all things realistic are fun and welcomed, just like the reality we know. People argue that Niko is one for revenge and blah and thus those features won't apply- well of course, but only if R* designates the protagonist to be a character like Niko. It's R*'s choice- it doesn't have to be Niko, it could've been someone else where the old features would fit as well. And some people on this board are so dictatorial that they say the features taken out are useless and unwelcome anyway, just because THEY themselves find them so; fact is, from the posts I see on this board, there're people who genuinely enjoyed those features too. And I think it'd be disrespectful to deem those people "kids who don't know how to appreciate gta".

Mat1871
I just want to add one thing. Since people are saying that the "lost the basics, the fundamentals" and than rant about features that were added in one game of the series, well, i don't think these people ever played GTAI, since the basics of a GTA are: Cities, Cars, Weapons and Missions. What i'm trying to say is, R* did not want to make Saints Row 2 and they didn't and it is silly to expect it.
blitsie
well, the things taken out so far (I guess) countryside and desert modifying the cars horse races most arcade games (only QUB3D) bicycles recruiting about seven members (well,I heard you get an option to call someone to send you a few "homies") Samuel L Jackson (dammit!) planes towing stuff P.S are the tanks taken out? (haven't survived long enough to see six stars ) pp.s I'm not done with the main storyline yet (and I haven;t seen everything, yet),so if something is wrong, please forgive me,oh humble master
markiij
can you customize cars?????????????? you cant but they should have put it in..... they want to make the game realistic so should of put it in Lol, like everyone in real life "pimps"his/her car XD. @ ztothee: You forgot the taxi system
racooon
Customizing cars fitted in with the theme of San Andreas and its westcoast setting. It worked for some cars (namely the chevy impala/lowrider types). The uses for it on other vechicles sucked big time and imo didn't work at all - making the vechicles look like s##t. What i'm trying to say is, R* did not want to make Saints Row 2 and they didn't and it is silly to expect it. I don't think it's lost the fundamentals in terms of weapons cities cars missions cops etc- in fact gta 4 has revamped these fundamentals to a new level in terms of details and realism. Indeed, I don't think ppl who criticize would disagree with that. But what about the intangible fundamentals of fun and variety in a sandbox game? I'm not saying gta 4 is not fun- let's not be extremists. It's fun in its own way but not so much in others. And should we define "fundamentals" based on gta 1? I don't think so. Games evolve, and consumers' expectations change with it. Why some people are expecting more is not because those features only appear in one game of the series, but because they're the latest added features as the series evolve. People naturally expect them to stay, in addition to the improved details and graphics. Of course, that may be too much to expect for the first episode of next-gen GTA, but that's another question. Evlnchow said it correctly. Its not like the game isn't fun in its own right, but as far as a gta series is concerned, if anything it "de - evolved" according to a lot of people, and I would have to agree with them. I mean, take a look starting from gta 3 and how much was added (and kept) from every single series that they had turned out, so when you picked up your new copy of gta, you were assured that everything from its predecessor was in there AS WELL as some new added features. But this gta is different as they took out a lot of what we, as gamers and fans of the series, have come to expect. I think that we can all agree (those who did not follow the games creation from day 1 on the web) were expecting that everything from the gta series would be included PLUS Added features as that's what we have had in the past, and to not have that is, well...dissapointing to say the least. I never said it was a bad game, and I appreciate what the gta series has evolved into, but there are aspects of the game that we have come to expect, and without those aspects (fun) its shocking and it just doesn't feel like the gta series that we have all come to love. I mean, c'mon - even the "new" features and a tad underwhelming honestly. Why can we only play 301 with darts? Why isn't there friday night black light bowling? Why can't we use brucies garage and modify (not necessarily rims and such) out cars with import engines for instance? Why no internet on our cell phones? With all of the time they took to create this game, there were so many possibilities that could have added to the fun factor and pleased many people. Instead we got a LACKLUSTER (and I truly mean that) and lazy build of what could have been, the greatest game of the year in the eyes of the players. (It'll probably get that anyway, thank you paid for media)
Malaria
You Don't Have to Except Things on SA in New Series. The Game still has Style of GTA, and showing a Sandbox isn't just on words.

The only reason people are using san andreas as their prime example is because it was the latest culmination of the previous ones. No one is saying "let there be a san andreas next gen clone" san andreas was gta 3 and vc PLUS new elements of san andreas. Sure its a sand box....with no toys...just some rocks and debris to throw around. If you want to use metaphors.
theAudiologist
so what do you do after you beat the game sell it? i think all the fun "wacky" things in san andreas kept me playing for months after i beat it and its f*ckin retarded how you cant customize cars that was the best part and the yellow line thing is bullsh*t i want a garage that holds 7 or more cars, no skydiving either which isnt a big prob but get over the fact that its a new game if it is they should have taken the best sh*t that people liked and put it in. one good thing i would have to say is the storyline is incredible and the graphics are great but its 360 and ps3 they should be. but still once you beat the game then what? the wacky sh*t was what separated other games from gta. I almost think i should have rented it, beat it, and returned it. Multiplayer? lol
HKB
It's not a problem when R* removes things from the game they dislike or don't think fit. They have done this before GTA4 to make the gameplay fit the games settings. The problem now is that they have removed things that many see as fundamental for GTA. Another problem is that the things removed is the things that made the game last longer. I know that gambling, flying and pimping cars don't fit very well in the story and feel of GTA4 but it's the things that makes the game last a long time. Personally I miss flying a real plane. That was one of the thing I did the most in SA and really stretched the length of the game. I can still find my self playing GTA just for some air action and I hate that I can't fly in the great scenery of Liberty City. Especially when you have an airport with planes it's ridiculous that you cant fly them. But on the other hand we now have the coolest multilayer ever but thats also pretty much it after finishing the storyline and done a bit off free roming. ZeroZero
looking at all the differently equipped cars (bull bars, roll bar, extra lights, extra spoiler, a blower with intake, gold rims, hell theres even a Judge version of one of the muscle cars.. etc..) it would have been a small step to make a car customization shop in LC. Since the parts needed to customize youre ride are already in the game.. For me the main and most frustating item that they kept out of the game is the parachute. I loooved basejumping in SA And it would have rocked to be able to basejump of the rotterdam tower (whats with all the dutch references btw.. North Holland, Rotterdam tower.. etc..) Yeah....I used the helicopter cheat to get to the airport and you couldn't hop onto the jets or airplaines like in SA. Maybe Niko needs to learn how to fly first. lol I'm sure Niko can take ride in jet, such as private jets later in the game since we see them flying in the skies all the time. I like some of the little things added like being able to throw soda cans or small objects you see on the ground at people, the ability to peer around a corner, the wide range of pedestrians, etc. Too bad Niko can't choose responses to pedestrians or reply to them. But I think some things added like Niko sleeping with his clothes on is kinda weird though. lol
mrsarkey
If you search through press release from Rockstar they speicifically wanted to get off the RPG track.
