boon4376
IS anyone else getting frequent dips during explosions and scenes where there is a lot of gunfire where the frame rate seems to drop as low as 15 FPS? I know i cant be the only one, I have the 60 gig PS3, im not having crashing issues that were reported after 10 hours straight gameplay... And I keep my ps3 out where it can stay cool, i know its not getting too hot... Ive read a lot about the issues, does anyone know if something will be done about it?? Its simply unplayable at a lot of points. And in my oppinion the HDR and shaders have been turned up WAYYYY to high... and if you ask me, its because they had to shrink all of the textures to fit onto a regular DVD for the xbox360, and in that case had to crank up HDR and shaders wayyy to far to hide it all, and try and wow customers with the lighting Wonder how it would have been if it was designed to utilize the 7 cores on the cell processor and the space of a blu-ray was allowed for the game, instead of having to be compatible with older DVD's and the 360's 3 core processor Edited May 2, 2008 by boon4376
mckjuana
... and if you ask me, its because they had to shrink all of the textures to fit onto a regular DVD for the xbox360 and thats why no one asked you, because you would issue a predictable fanboy response - which you did. i-cup
Funny how the "ZOMG UBER" PS3 is suffering frame rate issues while my Xbox handles everything no problem. EDIT: Fanboy response to a fanboy complaint.
mckjuana
EDIT: Fanboy response to a fanboy complaint. counter balance is indeed essential to maintain the equilibrium and harmony of the thread. so that means its 1:1 in this thread at the moment, and all is well. mckjuana
so if anyone besides idiot 1 and idiot 2 have anything to say besides going all fanboy on my ass that would surely make you idiot 3 - cant you see that your post started off talking about framerates on the ps3 and automatically blamed the 360 for the limitation! How is that not a fanboy approach. Why not leave it at "Does anyone else have bad framerate on the PS3?" or something.

Copilot
360 here, haven't had any problems with the game at all.
JustAddWater
I would suggest playing your game in a cool room and maybe invest in an after market cooler for your console. It never hurts to protect your investment. If that doesnt help you out any, my last word of advice would be to stay away from gunfights and other activities that could cause your system to lag. On a more individual perspective, I've been playing on my on a 60gb PS3, full 1080P (or whatever, not sure, I've heard it's upscales from 640 some how) on a 46" samsung. So far, everything looks amazing. Very few jaggies, a hand full of aliasing, some slowdowns here and there, and of course some late loading objects. Overall, I'm very pleased with my gaming experience thus far.
[-Vice-Andreas-]
360 user here, and yes, there are plenty of framerate dips in this game. I don't know why more people aren't complaining. A lot of the people saying they have no problem whatsoever are full of it. The problems are there, they just aren't coming out and telling us about it... because that makes them look inferior to other GTA fans. And in their heads they like to think GTA4 is the best thing since sliced bread. Don't get me wrong though, despite the framerate dips, it usually runs pretty smoothly... enough to still have fun anyway!
skytiger666
frame rate is a problem mostly just causes eye strain at times a big problem anything below 25 fps is a bug that needs to be fixed imo hopefully service patch will improve it rockstar have pushed the console more than anyone else

It shouldn't bother me but you coming onto a forum to say I'm lying to look good in front of a PS3 owner really annoys me. Since posting that I saw my first FPS dip when an explosion happened, which was strange because I was only driving along and I heard it. So I'm guessing the game was processing a lot off-screen. Just because you have crappy FPS doesn't mean the rest of us have.
shtonkalot
I haven't tried it on the PS3 yet, but think I may end up renting it to see if it is as bad as the 360 version. I'm not being dramatic when I say bad either, in my opinion this seriously effects game play in a bad way, not often but sometimes in really annoying places. The framerate gets very choppy for me sometimes when there is a lot going on. The worst thing for me though is when the textures pop in right in front of you just that bit too late. I have twice now crashed my car into invisible objects that appeared AFTER I hit them. One was a streetlight and the other some metal frame thing. Quite a few other times I have had near misses with objects that popped up in front of me. This doesn't make it a bad game and I'm not calling for rockstar blood, but it does really ruin the enjoyment factor for me at times. I should point out that I had no bad experiences for a large amount of time when I started playing. It seems the further I go the worse these problems get. Maybe I'm just creating more mayhem now? Maybe the game has to keep more in memory than earlier? I don't know.

But I do know I just ran into an invisible concrete barrier!!! AAAGGHHH! Calmed down now, but it's annoying as hell when you run into NOTHING!
