Niko bellic is a fictional computer game characture, he's never killed any Bosnians, babys, women or anything.

 

Bin Laden(not to sure about Ben Laden) is a real Terrorist, who ploted and aided in real life deaths of thousands of innocent people.

No, putting a Serbian soldier who commited terrible acts of genocide in Bosnia is not like putting Hitler as the protagonist. The difference is that Niko was following orders, not giving them. He clearly shows remorse and even says that sometimes we must make sure we agree with orders before we follow them. I think there's a good chance he's Serbian, and he probably did do some terrible things to Bosnians, but he clearly shows remorse. That's part of what makes Niko such an interesting character. He's not just some old guy starting with a clean slate. He's trying to clean himself up while at the same time make a life for him and his cousin in Liberty City.

not everything is what it seems like. the news you hear mostly takes sides in wars and tells the story of those who have common interests with them. The Serbs did suffer as well. It was horrible for both sides. But yes;

Niko says that he killed little children by cutting their throats, and he has a very dark skin tone. Most of the Serbs I know have dark skin tone and strange noses like Niko. He looks very Serb-ish.

 

For those of you who think R* made a mistake by making a war criminal a protagonist, you havent advanced much in the game. In nearly every level he talks about his suffering and how stupid he was to do such evil things. And wtf, in the game you run over, shoot, stab, blow-up tens of civilians, so wtf are you stating that for?! You know you're gonna control him to do horrible things so who are you to judge? This is a game based on killing and maiming mobsters and innocent people(c'mon, we all know that other than the main levels you run people down, steal their cars, kill policemen etc...) so even if Niko was an innocent man at the beginning of the game, by the end of the game when the player is through with him, he'd still be a psychopath who'd killed dozens.
