Xbox flat or upright?

Hey!

So I am just waiting for my Xbox360 to arrive and of course I want to do everything right with it from the start to avoid any possible damage to the Xbox or the GTA IV disc as good as I can. But what is the best way to put that thing? Horizontally (lying down flat) or vertically (standing right up)? What's the safest underground and if lying down, how much would I have to elevate it to assure good air circulation anyway?

Hope someone can answer...

Horizontally is the best mate. Then you don't need to worry about your CD games being scratched. People who put it vertically will have more problems over a short period of time.

Horizontally is better. If you stand it vertically it covers up the bottom air vent.

That's actually a pretty good topic, I'd like to know as well. I know that the ps2 had problems with discs getting scratched when placed upright. I have mine horizontal, do I have to worry if I want to set it upright?

I've had mine horizontal all this time. At first I had problems, and I'd already bought the fan attatchment that was supposed to keep it from getting overheated. But I kept getting a red light or whatever. Then one day for the helluvit, I took the fan thing off the back. Ever since then I have had NO problems! I can't believe they talk people into buying that thing... Anyway, horizontal for my vote.

...and horizontal covers the two side vents. Vertical allows the biggest surface area for heat dissipation.

Personally I have mine Horizontal, this is mainly due to having 2 kids running around in the same room and me imagining what would happen should they knock it.

Just keep it with a good circulation of air and I would think either way is fine.

Considering the side vents have almost no effect at all compared to the bottom vent, go horizontal biggrin.gif

horizontal = red ring of death after about 2 months. It overheats pretty badly. If you suspend it from the roof and twirl it in a circle while your playing it gets the best airflow.

vertical, and had it in the same spot next to my 22" LCD monitor for the past 2 years or so. no problems. Having it vertical keeps the most air space all around the case. If it's horizontal you've got one entire side right up against your desk/surface and trapping in the heat more. Super basic physics. The main exhaust is in the back anyway, so....

I've had my 360 in the same spot horizontally ever since it came out and I have NEVER even gotten one RROD

So what have we found out?

Its alright either way.

I keep mine horizontal for fear of knocking it over.

This thread just got me scared to try it either way...

Don't know what the f*ck I'll do when I get it.

Maybe I'll test out which way has better airflow while I'm playing.

hahahahah, yeah rolleyes.gif go play Mr. E-thug on a forum

As you can see, There are an equal amount of people that say horizontally and vertically, matter of preference really. How the f*ck can you scratch a cd while your 360 is flat? Go figure, i'd like to see what you are all doing with the 360. I have been playing for 2 years, and still nothing wrong with it.

vertical is what f*cks it up, lay it horizontal, and keep a regular fan blowing on it for extra precaution if u are that worried. not only that but microsoft put a new chip in so the 360 wont fry out like it used to

Guys, I know everyone says that vertical is the best way to have it, but trust me, it's not

The bottom vent keeps heat in too

Keeping a horizontal 360 on flat ground is also not adviseable

I've had my 360 set up in the following manner now for a couple weeks, and believe me, it's not hot at all... barely warm, when before it'd be SCORCHING just sitting horizontal

Here's a pic to show how you really should have it set up:

Basically whatever surface you have it on, just keep it elevated

Use small things like 2 packs of playing cards, or even better, 2 small, evenly sized bits of wood
