I'm assuming you can't run any executables then. One solution - Format and reinstall OS. Or atleast that's what I would do.

Your so stupid from downloading a .ex from a P2P thing...

Anyway, post a hijackthis log, we'll tell you what the file is, and probably how to delete it.

(assuming this really is a bad virus, not lop or soemthing (lop runs shutdown.exe whenever certain exe's are run, it's really about three batch files and a line in the registry) post the hjt log(if you can run the exe for hjt) and we'll either walk you through a format (should you not be able to use exe.s) or I'll guide you through removal with linux and a small partition (you can't use a live cd for this as you need to install WINE and some virus protection), or maybe if we can do it the oldschool way and you feel like it using regedit, and safe mode (be cautious, you may end up hurting yourself more) it shouldn't be hard to identify the virus, is there anything new on your computer(not the exe you downloaded, some random free trials or something like that)? if so google it (if you can't use your comp, use someone elses and go only to trusted sources), that is if you can't run exe... if you can't run exes try safe mode, and if that doesn't work it's format or fix it with linux.

I hope all that makes sense I kind of wrote it out of order >.<

I know its not a solution, but its a story of a virus I had. In 2004, I was having a new computer built to replace my aging 2002 one (It wasn't top of the range when it was built). It was the first time I had ever used Windows XP, and my Dad connected up the internet. Then almost instantly, a shutdown window came up, like the one you can make in CMD. It said computer shutting down in 20, 19, 18 etc. In the directory it had /C:/Sass. Prior to this, I had heard about the Sasser superbug on BBC news, which had made airports grind to a standstill, and affected W2K/XP computers. My Uncle fixed it, but it was amazing, withing 10 seconds of internet connection, the Sasser virus had got me; whereas the rest of my family had been unaffected on their Windows 98SE and 95 computers.
