Jeratlab
I don't usually post here, but someone told me the other day that modding is illegal. Is that true? They mentioned something called the EULA, which google told me is the End User License Agreement, does that make it illegal to reverse engineer the code? I can't believe it! QwertyAAA
No, it's legal. It's your copy, do what you want.
lil weasel
When you need legal advice contact an Attorney, not a bunch of teenagers. If you read the Agreement you 'signed' when you loaded the program your question may be answered. Most programs have a reverse engineering, etc ban. At the academy the instructor said: (like a tree falling in a forest) ...No crime has been committed until someone else knows about it. golfhotelsierra
Well, if it were illegal, half of this website would be missing, won't it?
Gouveia
We aren't decompilling the engine and using it in another game, claiming as our own, we're just modifying the models. That's not illegal, dude.

Girish
No, it's legal. It's your copy, do what you want. what if i patched my copy, is it still legal? you said it's mine.. What kind of patch? The v1.01 patch is an official release by R*. If you're talking about a downgrader, then you can use it provided that you don't discuss it over here at GTAF. zaroba
even if it was illegal, i doubt they would do anything about it. even if they did shut down all the sites, they wouldn't be able to physically prevent people from making mods and distributing them via any means possible. they also have no way to tell if somebody modded there game unless they go to the house of each person who has the game and check there game. and i'm sure they'd be more interested in all the pirated copies they would find instead of little model replacements. Lioshenka
It is illegal, or so it says in the booklet, unless you manage to make your mod working without editing existing files. Although, later it says that every mod made for GTA will be considered as R*' property, which kind of disapproves the first point. I don't think they themselves even know what to do about it. They don't give a hell about it anyway, unless you are making manies out of it, it only makes the game more popular hence bigger sales.
