Well agree with each other or not, I managed to converse with you without resorting to insults; something you have failed to do.  I wonder if you should be more worried about your kid getting onto this forum and learning how his father treats other people.  What he learns from that might be more damaging than anything he sees in a video game; which he no doubt is able to rationalise as not being real.

Being able to rationalise as being real or not isnt the question, its the association of certain parts of the game with each other that is of concern moreso in the uncensored version, and its those parts I have questions about in the uncensored version.

 

Unfortunately you seem to be a little too relaxed when it comes to this sort of thing for us to see eye to eye on the fine points, and thats fair enough thats your right as a parent when raising your children, as is mine in making a decision on the finer points of which content I am comfortable letting my child rationalise. However how I treat other people on a forum is something he has experienced before and thinks is quite funny, especially when he is able to see the points I make compared to the responses of others.

 

As for the insults, *shrug*, however your personal confidence in the neutrality of your own original statement remains. Suffice to say I dont waste time reasoning with people when they suggest I would be better off sipping coffee in a circle of chairs with other people trying to bust down the Rockstar reigiem, especially when I (and others) saw no such suggestion in any of the remarks I have made on this forum.

 

Again, with the insult it remains as unfortunately you still seem to fail on the initial point that began this tirade of bullsh*t, you would be better reading more and understanding better than posting comments that inflame the situation (lets be diplomatic about this - "through no fault of your own" of course).

 

Perhaps with that this will die, and the goodness that Sunrise hasnt added poison to the debate on this game with their tech editor giving it the parental thumbs up ensuring those with the wallets and purses realise its not a kids game ... so dont go buying it for your 10yo (like some other idiots obviously did).

Oh i completely understand, I was just talking about my parent's being leniant with me and why they let me play the game at a young age.

More assumption on your part; I don't intend to allow my children to play the game at all - and have never said otherwise, but I don't bother posting reams of crap about how I've come to these decisions, no more than I would post a decision about not letting them play with a pistol on a pro-gun forum. He will appreciate what you have done for him and give him a sense of authority throughout the household, making him respect you as an adult more.

 

I'm 18 now but played previous Grand Theft Autos under age, and seriously... Ive rarely ever had a fight / had temper issues... and I've never been in jail.

 

Parents forget Theres more aspects of how your children will turn out other than a video game.

I thought I was reasonably cordial with you and even had what I thought was a small ironic joke, which you completely failed to get and instead lashed out at me, kinda like what I did to trojanfoe, except he wasnt joking I guess ... now if he was joking then yeah thats a case of couldnt take it, but the fact is he wasnt ... he simply couldnt read and comprehend what I had written and instead took a dig at me as though I was complaining about the game.

Little recap:

I posted a thread complaining about Sunrise opening a story about GTAIV with idiot parents complaining about the game with no balancing comment in favour ... until a little later when their technology presenter reviewed the game and made quite and intelligent review and commentary on its violence and (un)suitability for children, and also made the excellent comparison to a Tarantino movie which put it into an excellent perspective.

 

Things went well till trojanfoe and his lack of reading and comprehension implied I was bitching about the game ... I took one of his "honest questions" out of context and it snowballed downhill from there.

 

A few more intelligent replies from others thrown in, I made a halfassed attempt at calming things with trojanfoe without any blatant insults and he rejoindes with a barrage of insults of his own (good on him too) also we had xer0er failed in the reading and comprehension (and adult humor department) and joined trojanfoe in the dunce corner ... and took a jab that "you can't hack it" (without any backup as to where it was dished and I couldnt handle it back)

 

I wonder if the thread gets locked while I sleep tonight.

Absolutely all for it. There is massive support for an R18+ rating for games in Australia, from the games retailers, to the public, and the game developers themselves (Rockstar especially) ... however the [email protected] in parliament have issues and "won't somebody PLEASE think of the children" (both the religious and female front) make it impossible for the OFLC to move forward with it.

 

However, if there was an R18+ rating for games, Rockstar wouldn't release a censored version (why waste development time) on a minority sector of the market. An R18+ rating also makes it much easier for parents to decide on whether to buy the game for their teenage kids (Um, DUH, its 18+ ... so uhh ... a big NO on that front)

 

However, it would be cool if Rockstar introduced ratings into the game so that you could set a parental level on the PS3/360 that would turn off the bad stuff, which can be overridden with a password for the older members of the family, thats my utopia ... but alas, like world peace it wont be happening soon.
