Sevens Sunrise program has taken up the charge of covering opinion on GTAIV in Australia, imagine my surprise when on the 7am story cut they ONLY read two comments, and both from women who were shocked at a 10yo playing it (my god shoot those parents) and an Aunts shock at seeing her 14yo nephew playing it. Now, my comment was sent in at 6:30 ample time to have been seen evaluated and read ... but no. Below is my comment posted to Sunrise. I am both a parent of a 14yo and a game player myself. I have bought GTAIV after extensive research into just how much violence and sex is in the game. So far the censored version justifys the MA15+ rating and I urge parents to respect the games rating and ask they dont buy it for under 15's. I myself will not be letting my 14yo boy play the game until I have seen all its content for myself to determine if it is suitable or not based on my own knowlege of my sons ability to process the information in the game. I wholeheartedly support the R18+ rating for games as the majority of gaming public is now the 20 something category and ONLY when there is adequate parenting can children be protected from sex and violence. Do not ask the government to do it for you, take a stand and do it yourself like you should. Does anyone here watch Sunrise through to the end at 9am? Can you let me know if they read any balancing comments about the game as opposed to the predictably irate mothers who wouldnt have a clue even if it slapped them in the face? Longer answer: There are more and more older gamers joining the forums, some of which will have familys of varying age, so whether you like it or not, this very forum could well become a parent support group in itself. But wait, in answer to your direct questions with no insult implied or intended ... 1) I joined here back when GTAIII was released, through the years since I have raised a family and now one of my children desperately wishes to play the game, and as a parent with knowlege about the content I was faced with a moral dillemma, allow him to play or not? 2) LOLWUT? ... change someones opinion on this forum? You would have better luck asking the pope to become an Orthadox Jew. And yeah, that pro-GTA bit *cue teen* DUH *end cue* really I never knew. 3) And for the closing insult (of course, no malice intended in suggesting a support group to someone who has no need or desire for one) try completing the following. I am not out to change anyones mind, except the bleeding hearts crying about the game and the piss poor parenting from those who through no sheer fault of their own stupidity buy games for underage kids without at least reading the rating on the cover, then come screaming back crying about the sex and violence and little 8yo Timmy and all the sufferance he endures as a result. This is polar different to my position where I worked extensively trying to determine what level of sex and violence was left in the game after the Rockstar had made all the censorship changes ... without telling anyone the differences between the MA15+ version for Australia, and the uncut version for the rest of the world. Much of the video released on the internet contained content clearly unsuitable for the MA15+ rating, yet there are very fine line game producers toe to get as near a complete product over the line without resorting to drastic hack and slash ruining the final product. As for the "no insults" ... please, perhaps where you come from a support group suggestion isnt an insult (probably America where there are support groups for men who were circumcised as babies and want their foreskin back when their wives leave them for Andre down the road). The OP wasn't saying anything wrong, and was backing up the game. If you don't want to read what s/he has to say, then stay out. What you want isn't always what everyone else wants. I think the backwards logic of a lot of folks is if an R18+ rating were introduced, less content would be censored... and little kids would be able to see more bad sh*t... The only "agony" I had was having one of my favourite game producing companies let me (and many other "caring" parents) down by not publishing a list of changes so parents could make a quick and accurate decision on the differences between the uncut and the censored versions of the game. However if this isnt one of your concerns, then I can only summise that you most obviously purchased the game for your 13yo. Better to agonise over on working to prevent exposing my kids to the wrong, thing than getting the panties in a knot when through ones own neglect you intentionally purchase it for their pleasure only to find it fails to meet your expectations on the bunny rabbit side of things. You were wrong there weren't you mate - something you didn't mention in your latest reply I notice. kYou had the assumption that I was a neurotic parent agonising over whether to purchase the game for my kid or not (when in fact I purchased it for myself primarily with the hope I will be able to enjoy playing it with my son depending on whether the content meets my limits on very particular content present in the uncensored version which I know through experience he has an issue with already and would rather he didnt experience). As for the arrogance, dont mistake that for self assuredness, I am confident in my comments and decisions when presented with all the facts, on the other hand you chose to ignore the facts and instead suggest I may need some peer "help" in overcoming my emotional state hence my presumption of your arrogance. If an appology would help make ammends, then it would be quite pleasant if you started from the top and read my comments a little closer to actually work out precisely what I had actually said before suggesting that I was being negative towards the game in any way, and that I may need help to overcome my irritation. The information flows both ways, my presumption that you were a 20 something with no kids, and your presumption that I was a neurotic parent agonising over the violence in the game. Being able to rationalise as being real or not isnt the question, its the association of certain parts of the game with each other that is of concern moreso in the uncensored version, and its those parts I have questions about in the uncensored version. Unfortunately you seem to be a little too relaxed when it comes to this sort of thing for us to see eye to eye on the fine points, and thats fair enough thats your right as a parent when raising your children, as is mine in making a decision on the finer points of which content I am comfortable letting my child rationalise. However how I treat other people on a forum is something he has experienced before and thinks is quite funny, especially when he is able to see the points I make compared to the responses of others. As for the insults, *shrug*, however your personal confidence in the neutrality of your own original statement remains. Suffice to say I dont waste time reasoning with people when they suggest I would be better off sipping coffee in a circle of chairs with other people trying to bust down the Rockstar reigiem, especially when I (and others) saw no such suggestion in any of the remarks I have made on this forum. Again, with the insult it remains as unfortunately you still seem to fail on the initial point that began this tirade of bullsh*t, you would be better reading more and understanding better than posting comments that inflame the situation (lets be diplomatic about this - "through no fault of your own" of course). Perhaps with that this will die, and the goodness that Sunrise hasnt added poison to the debate on this game with their tech editor giving it the parental thumbs up ensuring those with the wallets and purses realise its not a kids game ... so dont go buying it for your 10yo (like some other idiots obviously did).
