GTA IV + 60GB PS3 = Broken PS3

its been said that 60gb PS3's have been crashing and it's because of GTA IV. I called Sony and they admitted to having a "known issue". they told me they're working with Rockstar to come up with a patch of some sort. they told me to wait 5-7 days if it continues to freeze.

personally, i probably wont play the game very much seeing as i might break my PS3. had anyone else heard about this or experienced it.

also, i've played probably 6 hours and it's frozen on me probably 3 times.

Mine froze once, but I don't think it's something that will kill your PS3. You're just stirring up controversy. They may or may not work out a patch. I think it's probably due to a slower RPM HDD, but I haven't checked the specs to verify.

I paused the game went a did sh*t for approx 3 hours and when I came back it was frozen...

That was the only time GTA messed up, My PS3 has froze before on other games though.

FYI: I have the 80GB

That's sort of ironic how people were saying the 360 couldn't handle this game yet the PS3 is messing up sarcasm.gif

Idiot. Different hardware performs differently, even if it's the same type of console. One guy may be all dusty, the next may be spotless and brand new. It could also be random--something a patch won't even fix. But I know--I KNOW--that there are more 360's messing up than PS3s...and no PS3 guy is saying anything because we're all seeing probs both off and online.

no crashs here.

near-freeze a couple times if i do things like try and drive away or jack a car while its autosaving. it really doesnt seem to like that but otherwise, no single player issues at all like this.

I've pretty much left it on since 9am today and I haven't had any problems. I've also got the 60 gb PS3. fingers crossed that I don't get the problem.

I got a 360 and it's been fine, even when I play it for 4 hours at a time.

Suckers.

I am quite honestly gutted for those of you it's affecting.

I have both consoles, but as all my friends were getting it on the 360 so did I.

I really hope they sort this problem out soon for you all.

Assassin's Creed had problems with freezing. Didn't hurt the PS3. Quick patch fixed 'er right up.

I have both 40GB and 60GB versions as well as the X360 along with a sealed copy of GTA (PS3) - couldn't be bothered to play it today and probably won't bother. Will do some testing and report results.

Happened to me too...

I exchanged my PS3 twice and it still freezes, so I'm just going to return it and get a 360... I dont have any other PS3 games yet anyway confused.gif

I have a 40gb and the game has been freezing at random times for me as well. It usually freezes from anywhere between 2-10 seconds and then continues. I have logged around 15hrs of playing and it has frozen roughly 10 times. I REALLY hope they figure out a fix. It is not isolated to just one type of PS3 either so im not sure how quickly a fix will be found. I also have yet to be able to connect to MP, which has been a huge dissapointment. But we are only on our 2nd day of release so im not trippin to bad yet. The games still rocks and i still love my PS3!

This issue is only happening with one game for the PS3, whereas RROD seemed to be happening whenever it felt like it for the XBOX..... so this problem is minor compared to RROD.

Anyway.... I played for atleast 6 hours yesterday and didn't have one freeze or anything. Only been on it for 3 hours max today and already had three freezes. sad.gif

Luckily, two of them were during a random stroll around LC. Unfortunatly, my last freeze was about 10mins ago while I was half way through a mission, but I was quite enjoying the mission up to then anyway, so I won't really mind starting it again.

I'm gonna sleep on it for now anyway. Give my PS3 a rest and try again in the morning.

I really hope they get it sorted soon though! suicidal.gif

PS - Just for the record...... I have a 60GB PS3, 9 (almost 10) hours gameplay, 2 hours longest running time.

Got a 60G upgraded to a 200G 7200rpm and no freezing problems here either.

Mind you I also have it in my cabinet with direct ventilation (via a 12cm fan) directly behind the PS3 so there is constant airflow cooling it.
