Isn't that in effect, what they are doing now? They have announced that their teams are working round the clock to get it working. I definitely don't want to make excuses for them, and I would have preferred it worked perfectly right away... but this is the best selling and most popular game on the planet right now. Patching on consoles has made developers lazy and the general consumer now plunks down 60$ to be a beta tester until they get their sh*t together. I used to think that R* had enough pride in their product to thoroughly test them before release. I know, you are going to say that they couldn't predict what would happen to the servers when so many people logged in, but I say that is crap. It's not rocket science, it's math. Number of projected pre-orders(a number they definitely have) X amount of processing power and bandwidth needed per user = what the server requirements are needed. They already have my money, just like Infinity Ward with COD4 and Bungie with Halo 3 and there isn't much I can do about it but complain, so that is what I will do. I think it's only from when you log out, i'm in ireland and i was playing it up until nearly 10pm, its 2am here now so 4hrs ago. It was grand then i logged out and tried it less then half an hour later and it was gone. This is pretty shoddy, surely there can't be that many people trying to play online. There's going to be a whole lot more people in a few days. I hope they're ready.
