Connection to 1 or more players has been lost

Me and some friends were in party mode last night. I was the host, and selected player match from the phone to take us all to a game type. My friends made it into the game, but I got an error saying "Connection to 1 or more players has been lost. Press OK to return to single-player." (paraphrased)

 

My friend tried the same thing, and he got the same message while the rest of us made it into the game.

 

Player matches still work, for example if I go into a player match and just invite my friends, it works. The problem is that you can't invite friends to some game types once their started.
