My thoughts after playing for 5 hours last night

Let me first say that this IS the best grand theft auto game to date in my opinion. After a long gaming session last night fooling around doing a couple of missions i came to the conclusion that this game surpassed any of my expectations. The graphics are amazing..only came across 1 or 2 small framerate hiccups and the textures and lighting are top notch. When i read several reviews saying how the city felt "alive", i thought to myself...well they say that about every other sandbox game so its probably the same forumula this time around...BUT THAT IS ABSOLUTLY NOT THE CASE. The city feels alive and extremly believable (being that i live in new york city)..Plenty of sandbox games have been plagued with cheesiness and a handful of cliche stereotypes but this game finally sets the bar for video game scripts period. Ive been hearing people saying they do not like the new controls and the driving mechanics are terrible. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but i have no clue what game these guys were playing because the controls make past gta's feel like cardboard cut-outs. Driving is very realistic this time around and the aiming is excellent, as well as the cover system. Everything flows so well together,the controls,the graphics,cinematics,the city,and the characters...So if you havnt purchased your copy yet and are still on the fence about picking this one up, all i have to say is that your missing out on one of best video games of our time....Thank you rockstar for creating a masterpiece.

I agree. I think the graphics are awesome. Like you said slight hiccups and pop up but easily forgiven. The scale of the city is phenomenal. Dialogue and cutscenes are frigging incredible.

My friend who is the total honest type had similar opinions as yourself. Also mentioned the driving is more GT style.

 

I found it quite laughable when some people here didn't like the fact that "the car spins out at high speed". Way past funny.

I think the driving in this game is great, Its not too hard and its not too easy. A perfect balance in the way they handle. It just doensnt feel cartoonish anymore which is a definite positive in my book.

Thank GOD...I'm not alone. With all the whiners around I swore there were only a few of us who actually love this game, for its few quirks and unbelievable...whatever. You name it, it was well presented and well executed. I for one am happy that the cars handle the way they do...I loved the ole skool way of bein able to corner on a dime but this just feels right. As it should be.

My thoughts after 16 hours...

 

Best GTA so far. I do miss the old ones, and they have a place in my heart forever. But this GTA is amazing.

 

I have found about 4 bugs up to this point. However it doesn't change my opinion. The bugs are not that big a deal. Considering how much this game does, 4 small bugs is nothing.

 

I have seen no framerate problems yet. The graphics are great on a PS3, so I'm not sure what some people are complaining about.

I likely played about the same amount the first night! haha

I reported on that in my own thread, however. So far, my latest opin is that Niko and Roman's voices are the best ones, with the two girlfriends in second and third. For main characters, the voice of Niko has to be the best choice Rockstar made... for a central character it fits so well with his animated mannerisms.

 

For the graphics end, in the midst of maddening pursuit, I had a small series of freezes in the game, only a few seconds and nothing big enough to mess me up, but that could certainly be a worry trying to avoid police!

 

The explosions are as good as it gets so far and the cars and racing, driving feel is a bit like LA Rush, the last game I played for some time. I wanted the car design level to match dedicated racing games, and this time it has!!
