markslo111
I was playing GTA IV and i couldnt see sh*t when it was night. Is it normal or is my monitor/tv weird? I tried looking for brightness and i did change it and it's a little better but still cant see everything. I turned the brightness up on my tv, didnt work either. Maybe it's the game. Because when i turn the light on on the car i can see where im driving. Otherwise, great game!

Mister Pink
Yeah man, I had to brighten it up. It was far too dark even with the lights out in my room. Although when it got to day time it wasn't too bright either. RUBBER JOHNNY
mattymcs
I find putting contrast and brightness to very nearly full works best. If you put them right up to the top, it looks a little weird when the sun is shining.
daarong
I'm actually happy about how dark the game is... that's the way the real world looks! If you don't like it, go to sleep at night (sleeping skips 6 hours at a time).

CEESE1
i just wish i could change the background color of the cell phone. Is that something they might fix it with a patch?
HyphyPerk
yeah its way too dark in the shadows and at night, and the cell phone screen is a BITCH to read 90% of the time it's impossible.
Jfuller
It's so dark, and I love it. I tend not to go on missions at night. It's too dark. I go clubbing then to bed. Makes you feel like you actually have to go to sleep.

Especially New York, there is a lot of things blocking the sunlight in that city

Yarbo
The game is indeed a little too dark on some monitors. I have played GTA on two screen so far, and for both screens I am using a VGA cable. (Best connection to use behind DVI and HDMI). On my 32" Viewsonic LCD TV, everything looks fine. Not too dark, not too bright. For some reason I prefer playing xbox games on my 21" Widescreen computer monitor (connected to the xbox using VGA.). Not only is everything much clearer, that blur effect they added to help with the frame rate, is much less noticable on a my computer monitor. Anyway, the game can look very dark in some places, but I also notice that they are using HDR lighting, because if you go from a bright area to a dark area, the dark area will be REALLY dark for a bit, as your eyes adjust. And the same holds true if you go from dark to bright. Everything will be super bright for a few seconds as your eyes adjust. If its always too dark to see, I would suggest raising the contrast more then the brightness. Raising the brightness too much will start to make things look washed out. Its a fine balance really; I have my contrast cranked almost as high as it goes, and I left the in game brightness alone.
GTA:IV
Yeah, i seem to find myself driving with the head lights on all the time.

caladina
i saw it mentioned that the team had loads of cameras recording the sun rise and fall to get the cities light and darkness right maybe thats just one of the comparisons to make you feel the city is as dark and gritty as they want it to be, no wonder they got high beams in the game lol

skytiger666
yes - often so dark you can not play I bought a next gen game to SEE things mood effects are OK but not if they stop you playing this is a game not a film and why is it so blurry and messed up in the distance ? from a helicopter city looks like a grey blurb looking forward to update patch ... D- Ice
To be honest, that is exactly what i wanted in this GTA - like my old GTA dream before release which I posted somewhere here lol. I was very sceptical about an Autumn NYC atmosphere - to cosy/apple cidery for my liking, and not at all as seedy as I hoped. However, after I played the game, I really think R* perfectly pulled it off this time. It is just as seedy - if not more so than I hoped for. Incredible game R*
Vaard
i have 50" flatscreen projection HDTV playing on a 360 with a component cable set for 1080i........ i agree that it is incredibly cark to play the game... i have the game setting to the highest brightness, contrast and saturation and it is still hard to see the game in some areas...... the phone is also hard to read, although setting the phone options to large text has helped a bit.......
