Would you/Do you let your child play GTA4?

Just wondering if the majority of the people here would allow their 15 child to play GTA4 or not.

IMO I would allow my son to play (if i had one lolz). I mean, it's not that big of a deal, and restricting it would just make him wanna play it more so he would do crazy stuff like wank it because he can't play or he would go to his friend's house.

Also it's not like he'll see something in the game that he hasn't saw on the internet or in animal porn.

Yeah, because everyone watches animal porn. dozingoff.gif

I wouldn't let a little kid play GTA until he was about 13/14, by then they have seen everything and think 2girls1cup is tame. lol.gif

i suppose it would depend on the maturity of the kid... 'cause there are certainly some 15 year olds who are more mature than 17 year olds. i would say in most cases no, but there could be exceptions.

The kids that get "sheltered" then go away to school are the ones who get out of control. The ones who have had some freedom and I mean some, still had their parents watching them but let them do w/e usually are normal.

Why the Hell not? They will see it soon enough

My stepson is 16, he got a PS2 when he was 12 for Christmas and he got GTA3 and VC with it, he also got RE:Code Veronica and a couple of other titles, he then got SA when it came out, he did some jobs and saved up for it, I went and bought two copies on release day, one each.

He got his first go on IV last night.

However he is not allowed to play any of the games infront of his little brother who is 4, I dont neither.

My son is 12, he has ALWAYS played games with me, I believe completely that giving kids the FULL picture on life does exactly the opposite of harming them,

I would go so far to say that I feel it actually helps them learn the correct way to behave in society .

So for the question, would I or do I let my son play GTA ? yes on both accounts... infact I even got him out of bed at 12:15am when I returned from Tesco, and gave him a day off school so that he wouldnt miss out biggrin.gif

The ones that do the most harm are the parents that don't care, don't take the time to sit and explain things to their kids.

Taking it to the other extreme, it is also bad to wrap your kid up in cotton wool, this just leads to them not having a clue about social issues when they reach the crucial age.

I also think by the time some of us have kids society will have changed more. I mean when I was 10 we got our first computer but it wasn't until I was in highschool I started using it for leisure activities. And now, I know some eight year olds that can get on the internet, things are changing as the masses get more tech savvy. I remember seeing my cousin who was only seven playing GTA III a couple years ago. I would definitely allow my son to play any GTA game, it's highly unlikely a kid would get ideas out of a game as long as it's not the only thing they are engaging in. Of course, this nation will suffer drawbacks as obesity increases among kids, most of my childhood I went outside everyday for several hours, and I hope I will be able to let my kid(s) have a similar experience instead of being glued to the tv/computer.

I will be letting my 4 year old daughter play it. Although, she doesn't really do much other than run around bumping into walls.

I let her play Saints Row, and that is about all she could do. Although, she had just turned 3 then. She is a lot more coordinated now. tounge.gif

Of course, her play time will be heavily monitored, and if I see something I don't want her to see, I will grab the controller, and move her to a more child friendly zone.

Which is why we pander to all the liberalists these days - these are the people who were wrapped in cotton wool as kids and have no idea of the real world!

I too let my 10 year old play the GTA games - but, like all other computer activities, under my parental supervision. Saying that, when it comes to movies etc, Im very strict and follow the age guidelines, she doesnt watch anything under a 12 rating.

She doesnt get to play any of the missions she just loves to be able to get on a bike and drive about, its the sense of freedom and getting to explore places and see the sights she likes. She hears the odd bit of bad language but, as she says, she hears worse in the playground. And with GTA 4 she really digs the soundtrack, I've found the radio stations to be a good way to introduce her to different cultural themes and how their music reflects their identities.

I find it ironic that we preach these standards to our kids, but as Niko Bellic himself says "I have seen 50 children lined up against a church wall with their throats cut. It was then that I realised that the creature that could do this has no soul."

No, not after getting the lap dance i got last night. Girl on girl...lol.

It would certainly depend on the age of the child but in most cases i would say no.

I would let them at any age. If they are having fun its fine. Why worry? We all die in the end, through global warming.

Well I have been playing any game which I wanted with no restrictions. Getting 18 in May.

When I was like 7 I even could play Leisure Suit Larry, wicked! lol

I dont feel of being violated by those games in anyhow, but have I violated those, its a whole new story.

Yeah, getting my copy of IV on friday until this I just have to do is waste this bloody 1st of May.

Nope. It's the sex followed by violence/violence followed by sex factor. If it were just violence, then yes. If it were just a few racy scenes, then yes. But the correlation that can easily be established between sex acts and violence in this game would force me to not let my kids play it.

That's not to say he/she won't play whatever GTA incarnation is popular when my son is a teenager, but rulz iz rulz. They can wait till their 17.

I have an 8 year old daughter and I do let her play, she likes to jack cars and cause mayhem, I don't think she truly understands that its "violent" she is light hearted and see's humor.

I am one of those damn "liberals" though, I shouldn't be allowed to breath this patriotic air around me.

Lol crazy stuff like wank it... Masturbation is bad but killing people and having sex with hookers is fine.

i have a 5 year old son, i let him watch me play the game. sometimes i make him turn away or close his eyes....like when the stippers do lap dances, etc.

but i just explain to him that its only a game, you cant do these things in real life. he understands & is a very well behaved boy

when you shelter kids, they just go crazy when they turn 18. i would rather have him get into trouble before he turns 18 so he cant go to jail for doing something stupid. i got all the dumb sh*t out of my system before i turned 18 & i think its because my parents let me learn from my mistakes

yes i would, depending on the child. but he would have to atleast be 13 or 14 first. i dont beleave that games brain wash kids. every time a younsta does something bad they blame it on gta or some other sh*t.

I would have to see how mature my child portrayed themself. If they're a mature 15 or 16 year old and know that it's just a game and the language shouldn't be used when talking to everybody then yeah. I don't see anything wrong with letting my children play GTAIV (if I had any that is).

Some people like to hide their children from the world around them by not letting the play games or watch movies that aren’t G rated. They “protect” them by hiding them from every bad thing that happens in this world. They are told that damn near everything is bad, and there is the problem. They eventually find out that many of the bad things are actually good. They watch an R rated comedy and find it really funny. It makes them wonder if all the other things in the world like drinking, sex, and drugs that they were told was bad was a lie too. This example is simplistic but effectively states my point: Overprotecting children is bad. Teach them about the different shades of gray that go along with bad instead of lying to them saying it’s bad because I said so. That way they know to stay away from the really bad things.

If smoking is bad, why do so many do it? Why isn’t it outlawed? Maybe because it has something positive to offer?

How would you answer these questions to your children?

It’s the parents responsibility to make whatever decision they feel is necessary but overprotection is just setting them up for failure.

I don’t have kids but if I did, I would let them play. IT’S JUST A GAME.

Sorry but that is bullsh*t. when my child is 12 i wouldn't let him play these games as by that time the games will be photo realistic and it would probably mentally scar him. its like letting a 12 year old watch a disturbing film! parents who care keep their children away from this kind of violence and make their children successful!

EDIT: also not to wrp them in cotton wool but dont you think young minds are vulnerable to violence? E.G all the "chavs" roaming the street because of this?

Of course if i had children i would let them play.

Fortunally here in Russia we don't have any rating systems. Even 10 years old can buy Manhunt etc... No any limits.

And i think it's true.
