1080P?

Recommended Posts

Any idea why it changes to 720P? My TV goes to and works with 1080P. I use Gran Terismo in 1080P without having to do anything, I put in GTA IV and it starts out 1080P but then changes to 720P. The graphics are OK but compaired to Gran Terismo not even close. Thanks.

You're saying it doesn't work in 1080p? I was having problems in 1080i and the game was chopping off some frames and it wasn't properly fitting on my TV. I just got off the phone with a Rockstar technican and he said it is a known issue and he suggested switching to 1080p to fix it...but, you're saying 1080p doesn't work, either??

skytiger666

the game runs at 720p internally

and is scaled to fit the output resolution you pick in the xbox system display settings

so either choose to output at 1080 to have the xbox upscale it

or output at 720 to have your display upscale it

gta4 is not a true high definition game

that is partly why graphics look bad

tray66, My gta4 box had a little scratch off sticker next to "Up to 1080p". When I used a penny to scratch it off - it said "not a winner". Check if yours says "winner". Kidding aside, based on skytiger's excellent comments, it looks like "upto 1080p" means native 720p "scales upto 1080p" depending on your console specs, tv & your luck.

So if your console cannot correctly scale-up to 1080i or 1080p- All you have to do is blame Sony(for PS3) and MS(for Xbox) or your tv mfg for screwed up scaling. The "upto" reminds me of the playbook TV mfgs used a few years back to sell HDTVs. Glad to see software companies using proven tactics -A

I was going to post the exact same question as TRAY66,I have no problems running 1080p in gran turismo, but in GTA4 it switches to 720p.....I am using a new sony bravia lcd tv connected to the playstation with HDMI cable

You have to go into display settings and uncheck 720p and 1080i...just check 1080p...then GTA4 will run in 1080p mode on the PS3.

I get tired of this "true high definition" nonsense. High definition is anything that is higher resolution than standard definition (720x480/720x576). 720p (1280x720) is "true" high definition and so is GTA4.
