PS3 Screen Problem

my dad got his copy of GTA IV today and when he came to play it all he gets is a black screen.

 

so i thought it was the cables so i checked them all and put it the other HDMI slot but still a black screen

 

so then i tried my copy of gta on my 360 with the same tv and it works

 

anyone got any suggestions as i dont really know much about the PS3 or how to use it

if thats the case with 360 then its ur ps3

Check and make sure the display setting are correct in the PS3 setting menu. I tried to re-set my video output last night and it back fired, giving me the black screen of death. If you need to, disconnect everything from the PS3 except the TV, turn off the system and turn it back on, hold the system on button for five seconds or more, and the system will reset itself. That may help.

requires that you turn off the PS3 with the manual switch on the back, turn it on and then hold the front power button down for about five to eight seconds until it beeps twice. Then you re-select the 1080p resolution when prompted.
