PS3 -360 Freezing & Lockups. TempFix.

Finally got 1 of my 2 pre-orders in.

The other from RSwarehouse still not in, pre-ordered since may 07. Just a lil upset about that.

 

Anyways, i have 3 PS3 60gbs. (1 tip top shape launch console, 1 mint and the other very beat up)

I installed gta4 on the beat up ps3 and on my way to driver whoever to where ever, the game froze.

Started to format the disk free from any other game data and saves.

One thing ive notice that really caught my attention.

I have my PC on one side of the room and my plasma tv directly across on the other side.

After the game freezes i notice on my PC screen a ballon notice that my online connection is now connected.

Meaning the game caused some type of conflict or some type of hard disconnect of some sort.

Now i have many systems hooked up to my online connection modem. PS2s, PS3s, PSP, PCs, wired and wireless all work fine.

Ive had these type of reset connection problems before so i know where theres a problem because this connection reset has not happend for for a year so far.

 

So now im sure that the game or ps3+gta4 does have some internet connection issue at least from first play on a non formated HDD.

Playing right now after the format and seems to be running smooth.

If it freezes again this time then ill test it with a newer ps3.

 

Back 2nd day with some interesting freezes.

Im still using the beat up ps3 and havent had any freezing issues like the first but theres something else...

 

Was playing multiplayer late last night and everything was running smoothly (had to keep running from ppl trying to kill me while testing things out).

I had 1 disconnect around 5am and went back online. After logging back in about 30 mins later it was very hard to stay connected and use the phone for voice chat.

Thoes 30 mins i was charging my bluetooth headset and after that i turned on voice chat again which made the game freeze for like 2 to 4 seconds and then it went back to normal.

Im begining to believe this freezing problem could really be to server connection timeouts.

What about offline PS3s? I think at first it tries to do an online check of some sort and like most systems when there is a pulling for an online call it stalls or does a Not Responding freeze like many systems do.

Sometimes thoes Not Responding things normalize or stay that way as you might know.

So, this could be something having to do with how your internet setup+GTA4+PS3 OR 360 responds to a lag pull for information.

At the moment i cant login to multiplayer through the phone but if im right then a patch for this problem should be easier if the RS team has pinpointed it yet.

And what i mean by that is if you cant connect to multiplayer where it doesn freeze or lags the game then a patch for this in a similar fashion may work for other internet requests.

Multiplayer isnt the only thing that needs an internet connection. I have to load the game up just to connect to RS social club section online.

In short, this could be the freezing issue (sure does look like it), but it may not be.

Just trying to narrow it down.

I dont own a 360 but this may help 360 owners aswell.

 

After reading around it seems theres a internet lockup or drag issue that will freeze the game during some cut scenes or mission intro.

 

Reports by users have stated that disconnecting your online cable seems to make this problem go away.

 

For PS3 users:

First, update to the latest firmware (which should be 2.30).

Now disable the psn information menu. That menu to the right with the news list.

Restart your PS3 and try GTA4 now.

 

If it still freezes, then disconnect your online cable and play single player offline.

Reports from most PS3 users state that this fixes the freezing problem.

Some still report that after disconnecting your online cables doesnt make this problem go away.

 

For 360 users:

Same as above.

Disconnect your online cables, restart your system and try that.

 

Nothing much we can do but wait for a patch or some further news.

lock-up ? Man I want to play the game but I gotta wait till 8 PM today so yeah I hope it works for me I have a orriginal launch 360 and a 60GB PS3 I'll have both versions in a few days but man :S

None of these PS3 fixes work im afraid. I have the newest FW and a launch 60 gig PS3. Ive tried changing every setting i can think of all night to no avail. I dont know what ps3 users your talking to that say this fixes it for them, but the very many ppl on the playstation boards report nothing helps at the moment.

By locking up do you mean ""Disc Unreadable" because thats what I been getting so far. I just got the game about 15 min ago. Right when I start driving it happens.

i think the problem with the online thing is because of the Social club. Cause last night i idn't have a single problem with my PS3 and i played for 5 hours. But today after connecting my Social club account to my PSN, My gta4 froze twice after playing for only 1 hour. Once driving to a mission and other in a mission cut scene.
