IT'S BOTH VERSIONS. f*cking fanboys, getting out of control. Having a personal preference is one thing, buy Christ. I think flamboyant fanboyism should be a bannable offensse here... would really clear a lot of clutter. Dude shut up, its only the PS3 version. The PS3 plays other games just fine, so if it's not playing GTA IV, then it's Rockstars fault... Is that information too hard for your brain to process? Reports of disconnecting your system from online seems to help the problem. For the fanboy crap: 360 users are reporting to have worse freezing issues than ps3. From what I've read on the PS Forums, it's only affecting 60GB launch consoles, so basically the ones that were the first PS3's made for the public. I've also been reading about disc read errors for the 360 version. Only problems for the PS3 I've seen is launch 60 gig PS3's and I think a couple of launch 20 gig PS3 complaints as well. LOL, from the looks of it (the numerous threads about 360 GTA problems), the 360 is the one that's really having the problems. Besides what's gonna happen with the 360 when developers starting filling up the, what, 40, 50 gigs on the Blue Ray? Downloadable 45 gig games? LOL. Now I'm not trying to hate on the 360, all my friends have one, but seriously, the console has had numerous problems and is technologically limited. Proprietary hard drive, no thank you. PSN Carlo Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 My 60 GIG launch PS3 froze as well. Farthest I got was Roman's apartment when he steps on the roach. Tried reinstall twice. I got mine at Gamestop and it was a standard version. Did anyone with a launch PS3 get the special edition? Is it freezing too? If not, maybe the disk was pressed somewhere else. dougr Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 I've had all 3 discs freeze on me. 2 From game stop and 1 from wall mart. each version has froze on the 20 gb original hard drive with the system and the 120 GB hard drive i updated it with. it is a hardware compatibility issue I bet. wolfgang187 Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 I've been changing just about every setting i can think of all night trying to get the game to work. deleted all gta4 data and reinstalled twice... no luck. has anyone tried copying a gamesave for the PS3 version? perhaps to a point thats about 3 or 4 missions into the game to see if that works? cant really think of anything else. My 20gb PS3 is freezing via HDMI so I switched it to standard A/V cable and it still freezes.....:-( Yeah i tried changing all the video settings and downgraded the resolution from 1080p to 720p, no luck. i also changed all the sound settings (seeing as sometimes the audio would continue after a freeze). some of our launch ps3's just dont seem capable of rendering the game for more than 20 seconds or so. if i bypass the cutscene i can drive around for about that long. never made it past 2 turns before crashing. i even crashed on the menu screen. i have a sinking feeling that this "fix" will involve us getting new ps3's shipped to us Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

At first I thought it was the disk so I got a second copy and it still freezes when Niko is still on the boat. So then, I disconnected from the internet (which helps with The Show) and still there is freezing. Then I tried disconnecting the HDMI and that didn't work either.
