game freezes at opening scene

i got the install done and every time i try to load up the game it will get to the part where it says "starting new game..." at the bottom of the screen...then it goes black for a few seconds and i can hear the audio...then i can the see whats happening on the screen and when they show niko a few seconds later the screen freezes and the audio keeps playing until the end of the opening sequence and then nothing happens after that.....my ps3 isnt overheated....it was off all day while i was at work....there are no blemishes or other marks on the back of the disc..i was wondering if there was anything i could do to get it working so i dont have to take the disc back tomorrow when the store opens

I've been hearing that this is happening to people who have launch 60 gig PS3's. I've also seen 1 complaint of it from somebody who had a launch 20 gig.

 

I'm personally a little worried. I don't have a launch 60 gig but rather a 60 gig from a couple months after launch. I don't know if this problem is for all 60 gig PS3's or just launch. However like I said, I've only seen people with launch systems complaining so far. I guess I'll find out in the morning if my 60 gig PS3 will have this problem as well.

Well, like I said. It's almost certainly not your disc that is to blame but rather your system. You could always try and exchange just to be completely sure it isn't your disc but yea looks like you are in the same boat as a number of other people and are going to have to wait for a patch of sorts to fix this problem.

 

I'm wondering if it's going to come in as a patch for GTA IV or as part of a firmware upgrade.

 

I just hope that since my system isn't a launch system that I'll be fine

Well from what I've been reading it doesn't seem to be any over heating problem or anything like that but rather some problem GTA IV has with launch systems.

 

Sounds more like it's the game not the system messing up.

i got my ps3 in september 2007, its 60gb from play.com does that mean it was one of the lauch consoles, and is this problem only happening to 60gb ps3 in america or is it in the uk aswell

Ico and Parralel lines BOTH did this to me on my PS2 at the first real moments where things are finished "starting up" as well (meaning, the first time you do more than just explore, like go to start a mission). I was hoping this was something only I experienced, it seems it's some sony thing.

 

Just try this... is your PS3 standing? Sit it down. Turn it off first. Is it laying? Stand it up. Hopefully this will make a difference; God of War did this and to fix it, I had to stand up my slim. Who knows? Worth a try?
