Lowest score yet: German mag review (93/100)

Hi there,

 

since this thing is still missing in the gta4.net news and there is no possibility to submit any news, I thought I would make a thread to tell you about it.

 

Important to note: These mags (in their online features) were not able to play any multiplayer yet!!

 

 

Pro's and con's:

 

+ Enorm aufwendig gestaltete Stadt voller Details, die man gesehen haben muss.

+ Hervorragend präsentierte Story mit Tiefgang und ausgefeilten Charakteren

+ Grundsolides Missionsdesign, das von zahlreichen Gameplay-Verbesserungen profitiert

+ Fantastischer Soundtrack mit 18 Radiosendern – da ist für jeden was dabei.

- Gewöhnungsbedürftiges Handling der Fahrzeuge braucht Übung

- Ruckler und Slowdowns konnten auch diesmal nicht vermieden werden.

 

+ Enormous amount of work put into building a city full of details. You gotta see it.

+ Brilliant presentation of the story with much depth and carefully crafted characters.

+ Rock-solid mission design which benefits alot from numerous gameplay improvements.

+ Fantastic soundtrack consisting of 18 radio stations - there is something for everyone

- Car handling requires much practice (they state earlier in that review that some of the cars break away reeeaaally quickly)

- Framerate hiccups and slowdowns still could not be avoided in this latest installment

 

Plus it states that the motorcycles are missing grip, as opposed to the two-wheelers back in Vice City. The framerate is basically quite acceptable, only when many cops show up it tends to dip. The second part of the city suffers from more framerate issues than the first one does. But anyone who got by the framerate dips of San Andreas will have nothing more to object in GTA IV. Other than that, there is nothing to complain about GTA IV, for the final product is surprisingly sophisticated despite its complexity, except for the taxi driver's lousy AI. Very often you tend to skip the taxi ride, because you cannot stand to watch this poor prick's crappy driving anymore.

 

Also important to note: Both reviews (that of the Xbox 360's version and of the PS3's) are fully identical. Maybe this is due to the fact that those are still online versions of the real articles to come in the print magazines (which will hopefully also cover the multiplayer).

 

The rest of the review does not offer anything new. I hope you got around my school-based english

What did they rate San Andreas? I'm sure the car handling and framerate are both better than they were in that, so if they gave it a higher score...

cool... good score anyway. it's good to see some reviewers still had some objectivity left in them. From what i've seen, there's still a few things that keep it from being perfect (frequent glitches and pop in, amount of cars and peds still low.. it's a shame they haven't fixed that in the new engine), but those are really minor gripes.

I don't agree with the car handling though, it looks awesome, check out the skids.

I'm prety shure there was a 92/100 somewhere before. But serriously do you realy think that a bit smaller previewing score realy matters? It's the game itself that matters .

I'm glad rating aggregators like Gamerankings and Metacritic don't include non-English reviews. I mean seriosuly WHAT THE f*ck is up with you French and German reviewers? Are you playing your own local versions of the game, or what? Because the Norwegian and Swedish Gamereactors gave GTA IV 10's.

The fact that the Motorbikes are missing grip excites me.

Do you not think it will require some skills...that and satisfaction.

I loved controlling the bikes on Tourist Trophy for example (Yea I know its a sim)

It was fun in Vice..but silly at the same time, any motorcyclist knows its not possible to corner at some of the speeds Tommy did and stay on it without taking your knee cap off or having a bike as light as a feather!

Mags in Europe dont just give 10/10 just like that.

 

Here in Slovenia the biggest gaming magazine, their highest score was 95. And that was Doom1 and some other game.

 

Anything above 90 means that its a superb game which inovates and pushes the limits of gaming in its genre.

That is how reviews should be. I ignore perfect scores and the reviews they are attached to because all it shows is that the reviewer is a biased fanboy. They get paid to review games evenly, not to cater to fanboys. Or, maybe they do get paid to cater to fanoys...

I'm looking forward to the taxi drivers crappy driving and I had no problems with the framerate drops that occasioned San Andreas so this review might as well be a 9.9 to me!! nine more hours!!!!!

The game is a 10. Had it since friday and its incredible.

 

 

Also dont listen to that crap about car handling seriously. It doesn't even take any getting used to. The cars handle nice and its so easy to pick up.
