joshsmith99
Yesterday I purchased an HDMI cable with a DVI input so I can hook my 360 straight into my computer monitor. I was expecting only a minor graphical improvement but what I saw was unbelievable. When you hook up your 360 via DVI the 360 unlocks higher resolutions for gaming, resolution beyond 1080P. I believe my 360 is set for 1600 x 1280 right now. The 360 will basically support whatever resolution your monitor is capable of displaying. Even the games render at that resolution...its unreal how good it looks. Looks just as good as if your pc was rending the game. It looks absolutely amazing, I got the cable from wal-mart for $30. Anyone one else have the same set up? I always wondered how IGN, gamespot ect... was capable of capturing such high resolution in game shots....well the quality is about that high using this HDMI-DVI cable
jas0nuk
Sucks, my 360 doesn't have HDMI out, it's one of the older ones VGA looks pretty good though, I'm running it at 1280 * 1024.
doa kappatango
Yep, I use the VGA and PC resolution on My samsung HD. The difference is amazing - been using that for about a year now . Some dont like it, as it is slightly "Softer" than the HD component. Make sure you get as close to the native resolution of your monitor/HDTV as you can - makes a bigger difference then. Lampir
They use Hd Capture cards...that cost upwards of $1k. I would love one myself They spoke about this not long ago its how i know also the game doesn't render in that resolution it just upscales

Slamman
I bought one for my PS3 as well, how do you set it to get an output however?!? I had only a blank screen and it was set to analog output for the most part... no HDTV, obviously. I think my LCD Samsung should work with DVI-D input

skitzofraen
Sucks, my 360 doesn't have HDMI out, it's one of the older ones VGA looks pretty good though, I'm running it at 1280 * 1024. Doesn't matter, VGA gives the same quality as HDMI, and can use the same resolutions, so there's no need for HDMI if you have a VGA cabel.

Peppah
I tried connecting the 360 to my Dell 24'' PC-screen (with VGA cable). Not very impressed with what I saw. On my Samsung 32'' LCD-TV it looks much better. Tips anyone? What resolution shoud I select? The picture is kinda pixy and unsharp borders, looks like I'm playing a game on the PC with low resolution. *Native on dell-LCD is 1920x1200

Apollo_33
I dont need HDMI. I will buy a 30'' ACL Monitor and then, I will buy a VGA Cable. I will play it at 1336x768. According to gamespot, VGA looks better than HDMI
plastik
I have a Microsoft VGA cable, and not only is it better than component, it seems as good as HDMI. HDMI obviously has the advantage of being an ultra-compatible, all-in-one, digital cable, but apart from that the difference is negligible, so it's not like owners of older 360's are missing out. According to gamespot, VGA looks better than HDMI I agree. Like I say, I have tried all 3: Component HD HDMI VGA on my 27" Samsung. VGA is by far the "Nicest" picture to view. The problem with HD is that some Edges can be Too Sharp. Sound stupid, but its true. With VGA, the ever so slightly Softer edge improves the overall feel of the image. DDR Midian
Oh, cool, I always assumed VGA was worse than HDMI VGA is generally considered to be somewhere in between component and HDMI, but even then it depends on your TV/monitor. Using HDMI with some screens will give a worse picture, some a better picture... but either way the difference is very small and most people wouldn't notice anyway. kingofnexus
The best quality picture you can have is 1080p through a HDMI cable. VGA only looks better on 720p etc because it blurs the fact that either a) your screen/tv is sh*t or b) the fact that 720p isn't all that HD. Get HDMI and a screen which can handle 1080p natively. The game itself is rendered at 720, having a TV with 1080 isn't suddenly gonna add more detail into the game.

It only supports 1920x1080, 1360x768, 1280x1024, 1280x768 and smaller resolutions down to 640x480. I currently have my 22 inch (native resolution 1680x1050) 16:10 monitor set to 1280x768, because it is 16:10 resolution as well, so it scales better, than, for example 1360x768. And yes, no f*cking way you have better resolution than 1080p (1920x1080), because X360 doesn't even support it.
