G twenty-nine
The cheaper cables work just as well as those rip-off monster cables. And HDMI is a great technology, it is a digital signal rather than analog (which you would use component cables for), and I'm pretty sure we all know the huge advantages with digital signals. But yeah, you shouldn't spend more than 10-20 USD on an HDMI cable.
B4rto
I got a HDMI cable for 6 pound (12$) and it works just fine. DONT listen to these people that say "OMG! You ened atleast a $200 cable to get it lookin gud" There is a very slight improvement between the cheaper ones and monster ones, but 110% not worth the extra $194. G twenty-nine
There's totally no difference between the cheaper and the more expensive ones, because it is a digital signal. Well, there may be a small difference as in lifespan or some small change in the physical medium, but other than that you are right. The same digital signal that is sent from the PS3 will be the same that is received on your HDTV as long as the cable conforms to the set standards for HDMI--which is very different than an analog signal. So, again, there is no reason for paying a lot of money for an HDMI cable. Now, GTFO and get one already!

Hobo-Lord
i hate when people do this, please wiki it or somin IT IS A RUMOUR THAT HDMI IS BETTER the only reason people prefer its because it has less cables! infact component is TECHINCALLY better because you can plug in the hd in one tv, and plug in the yellow one that is not used to another, and there will be no difference in quality whatsoever

Also, on some TV's there are settings like brightness ect. that only become avalible once you insert a HDMI cable. I can now adjust the HDMI black level for more depth in games and other cool stuff. SavageCore
IT IS A RUMOUR THAT HDMI IS BETTER HDMI is far superior. Not only is the audio and video quality increased but you get more features due to the digital interface, like the improved RGB on the PS3 and allowing the upscaling of DVDs which component cannot do, and trust me, watching a dvd on a 52" tv that hasn't been upscalled is somewhat terrible, unless you like pixels
ericcomp2003
If you have ever worked at best buy, where employees only pay 5% above what the store itself pays on some items, then, you would know how much they jack up the prices of the cables. Best Buy only makes a few hundred bucks off each tv they sell. So, in order to compensate, they will pressure costumers into buying cables that are literally jacked up in price by as much as 200%. OK, let me try and explain this to you: The PS3 sends out signals over some form of media to your TV. These signals represent your picture which is to be displayed. With digital, you get the exact signal that was sent from the PS3 to your TV. That is how digital technology works. It uses "square waves" instead of analog waves to transmit the signal. As long as the TV can distinguish the highs from the lows of the square waves, the picture will be exact. HDMI is able to transmit raw, uncompressed digital HD video and audio to a television. This being said, I do not know much about video technologies, but I have been in the Networking industry for over 10 years and know a few things about signals . Fuzzknuckles
PS3 & X360(HDMI & VGA) Comparison pictures coming in a few hours. They both have HDMI, actually. I run my 360 through an HDMI cable. Signatures are dumb anyway.
