Some stuff i noticed while playing the game

So I finally got my hands on the UK release of GTA IV on the PS3 just yesterday and I decided to post some of my findings.

WARNING: Spoilers below

The game is fantastic and really worth the hype IMO. A few things I noticed is that when your car is going full speed and you hit a wall, it actually cracks and that crack stays for a while. Now I don't know if this can be done everywhere or if the crack actually stays there forever but it was there even after I reloaded the game. So that is what they meant by environmental damage.

Something else I noticed was that I felt was weird is that pedestrians sometimes, while talking on the phone, they drop their phone as though it is trash and do not pick it up afterwards which was seriously weird. A bad glitch perhaps?

Also, I thought there was no loading in the game... but apparently R* forgot to tell the exact details. There is loading when you do a mission or when you save but that is mostly it. It is sort of annoying because the loading takes around 20 seconds max but nothing to hinder gaming experience.

That is all.... nothing much and most probably a useless post but wanted to keep you guys informed.

Feel free to ask me anything about the game that you would like to know and I will see if I can post a full review afterwards.

Thanks!

^^ No not really... you are restricted to a very few and as IGN have already said you can not get into alot of buildings either.

Do you even know what a SPOILER is? there's no spoilers in your post, so there's really no need for that warning wink.gif

I heard that damage on walls, bulletholes and things like that will stay undtil you turn off your console, but I don't know if it's true.

Can you accually blow holes in the walls? like if I had to get past a wall that was too high to climb, and I for some reason didn't want to walk around it, could I just blow a hole ind it and walk trough it (I was told it was possible, but im not really convinced)

Has the Elegy returned from SA? If not are ther any Skyline or WRX based cars in thegame.

Also can you do burnouts and will your tires pop, and can you Drift? biggrin.gif

There's also a bit of loading once you die. tounge.gif

Also, why is it that you can't get on top of the most the buildings? If you've got a helicopter, it looks like a lot of them can be landed on.. from what I've seen, anyways.

There are spoilers in it.

Like what? Spoilers usually pertain to story plots, and the like.

Not "hey, the walls dent!"

Do you think that'd ruin it for ya?

Thank you for your questions...

Here are a few that I will answer:

Answer:

Yea I know what a spoiler is but you know how bitchy some people get, going all drama king/queen on posts that reveal something about the game...lol.

And about your question, No unless you take an RPG to it I guess and I still haven't stumbled across one but regular bullets won't do. Not even 114 to be exact... I unloaded 5 whole clip on a really weak ledge and nothing.

Answer:

I saw a car that did look strikingly similar to a Nissan GT-R but I couldn't get the chance to drive it so I am not sure if that is the Elegy. Also, yes you can pop your tires when you burnout and it does it very realistically too. Your wheels start heating up and smoking and after a little bit of turning left and right... boom... your wheels are no more. Also if you drive through file your wheels sometimes catch on fire aswell. Cool bit no?

Answer:

Actually you can do that but you can't go inside a building to get on top of it... that is what I meant.

The GTA fan

How are the controls? I heard the PS3 controls are really different from the San Andreas and VC controls, (R2 to accelerate and L2 to brake/reverse plus other strange changes (correct me if I'm wrong)). All I'm asking is are the new controls better than previous games and do they take long to get used to?

EDIT: Another question biggrin.gif This has been bugging me for a while now, is it possible to turn off the headlamps at night or can you just make them dimmer? I hear you can turn them on/off during the day but not at night?

EDIT2: Sorry, last question- I promise blush.gif How do you repair the car in the game? Is there another way besides the Pay N Spray?

Thanks =]

There is an EVO X knock off quite clearly seen in official screen shots, probably in some vids too.

Here it is with it's Scooby mate.

The controls are in fact different. Their layout is as follows:

EDIT: You can infact change the controls back to the classic layout

No the lights are not possible to turn on/off at night. You are only able to put them in dipped or beamed.

Car repair only comes in the form of Pay N Sprays and through friends but that is all I know. Maybe the more I traverse the city, the more I will find chop shops.... So far I haven't found any but it is highly unlikely that they wont have anything else other than Pay N Sprays.

head lights come on automatically...but you CAN turn them to HIGHBEAM..even during daylight.

car repair is so far (20% in game) only at pay n spray. although i did park up my custom blown engine charger with some damage and returned the next day and didnt notice the damage...but i have to check that again...im not 100% sure it was badly damaged when i parked up.

Oh and I know this has been discussed... I just wanted to say it.

When you steal a bike you don't put on a helmet. Only if you go on the bike without jacking shall make you put on a helmet. Also if you crash, the helmet stays on and does protect you in a way. After a while of walking, Niko will take off the helmet and discard of it.

Why thank you for the cookies..

And I don't know if the club actually makes a comeback in this game... but most cars that are in the previous GTAs are still in this game such as the Merit and the Virgo... and the Patriot.. and so does the Huntley... in two versions, Sport and normal.

When you get on a Subway, you have a 5 different views... 3 on the top of each train car with a controllable 360 view, 1 cinematic and 1 of a surveillance cam inside the train itself showing Niko in which ever car he is in. Niko cannot be controlled while in the train.

wait, dude, do you mean custom as in you did it? or custom as in it was like that when you found it? because i saw a vid with a blown muscle car, didnt see it clearly, just saw the intake comin out of the hood. i thought it wasnt possible to customize cars? you would all make my day if it turns out you can!
