From "GTA neXt" to "GTA IV - General Discussion"

A trip down memory lane.

 

Hello there. Well It's nearly time for the most anticipated game in a long time Grand Theft Auto IV, this board will be split up into different sections, And to kind of celebrate that I thought it would be interesting to look back at the GTA IV forums from the beginning, how it all began. And some of the infamous topics that have appeared here.

 

 

The Next GTA. (The beginning)

Well, people were thinking about the next GTA before San Andreas was even released. Here is a topic which got pinned in the San Andreas section, but was later moved to the new "GTA neXt" section. It's a little bit weird (Well for me it is) to look back at the first page of this topic to see what everyone were thinking about the next GTA after San Andreas. Some of it came true, some of it didn't.

GTA neXt

It became pretty clear that there would be another GTA after San Andreas, because of the good reviews it had got, Sometime after San Andreas was released, A new Forum was created called "GTA neXt" this forum, would include all information on the next GTA after San Andreas, (It's the same forum you are on now BTW).

 

This is pretty much the first few topics that appeared when the forum was created.

 

Speculation/Ideas

Over the coming months, people started to speculate and speculate on what would be included in this "new" Grand Theft Auto game. Everybody was throwing out all kinds of interesting ideas, stories and locastions all over the forum. I remember when I first came to this board people couldn't stop talking about London. I thought perhaps this was because a lot of people who visited the forums, was from England. Some interesting topics, were created on the idea of what the new location might be. One of them being "The London Dossier" A big topic proving that London would be a good idea for the neXt GTA. Here are some random topics to browse.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" Officially Announced!!

 

Months and months and months had pased, with no official confirmation, No news on whether the next GTA would arrive, rumours were spreading wide about various claims. But during 2006s E3 conference, Grand Theft Auto IV was announced for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 Entertainment system. We still didn't know what to expect in this game, but we were excited nontheless.

After GTA IV was confirmed, the forums went crazy! Various spam topics were created, the forum had changed name from "GTA neXt" to "GTA IV" But there was something still missing, a location, an era. We still didn't know what would be in this Next gen GTA, everybody was desperate to find out what this new GTA would be about. One day, A member called "deepthroatgta4" posted various topics on this forum, with intruging stories involving Grand Theft Auto IV, often hinting at various locations, such as New York City and using secret codes. Almost everyone was convinced this was the work of Rockstar to get us hyped. We still don't know who he was or how he knew some of this, but his stories are an interesting read. Another topic i'm going to bring up is the "Steak" topic. One of the most famous spam topics to ever grace the IV forums. God bless you Hitman_90.

The First Trailer

After no info was released about GTA4, other than it will be released on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar annoucend they would release a Trailer, to promote This new GTA game. As this will be the only info on this game that has been released, everyone was waiting for this trailer. Infact Rockstars servers crashed the day the Trailer was shown, and only a small amount of people were able to see the trailer. The trailer showed famous modern day landmarks from New York City. Meaning it was set in that era. As the trailer, was the only source of information for this game. Everybody wen't to great lengths to disect every frame looking for anything that might be missed.

 

 

 

BlueSpot's map

Another famous topic, A member named BlueSpot claimed to have found a partial map to the game in a still in one of the trailers, this topic proved to be a success, everyone was truly amazed at how BlueSpot had managed to spot such a minute find, in that split second. His discovery was even shown to Rockstar reps, there only reaction to it was "My god."

 

Forum Topic: GtaIV Map

Well That's pretty much all I can think of at the moment. I just thought this forum is going to go through a whole rebranding, so It would be nice to remember how it used to be, I got all of this from my fuzzy memory, and Internetarchive.org, so I'm bound to miss something or make a mistake. So feel free to tell me.

Yeah. It's been one crazy journey, but we are finally here.

Oh sh*t. I forgot to add the Delay of the game...I'll have to do it later now....
