Tonality
Samsung LA40R81BDX ******************* -Budget is about $1500-2000 -Viewing distance probably only around 3-4 feet. -Main use: television/Xbox 360/Wii gaming -Was quoted about $1500 discounted Site: http://www.projectorsonline.com.au/shop/sh...d-tv/p_855.html Brochure: http://www.projectorsonline.com.au/shop/up...DX_brochure.pdf How does this look, guys? Doesn't seem to have 100mhz in the specs - seems to only be 50... that's the major problem I've picked up with it. EDIT: Obviously if you have something else to recommend that's better, let me know Looks a very good TV to start with and Samsung are a very good quality make - I've had no problems with my 23" Samsung which is about two years old now. For that price, have you thought about getting a projector setup with a blank screen though? I know this wouldn't be ideal for watching regular TV programmes with but you'd get a bigger screen for your money and the option to go for bigger screens later on if you wanted. By the way, I'm not sure what companies are "trusted" in Australia but I just found you that exact same TV for over $200 cheaper at http://www.digitalcentre.com.au/p/325031/s...bdx-lcd-tv.html. Hope this helps.
SBizz6
I have that exact same TV except the 23" version and I absolutely love it. The picture is amazing, there is a preset game mode in it to optimize the picture for gaming purposes, and the menus are easily navigable and modern looking. There really is not too much to say other than it is a great TV and you should definitely purchase it. Just PM me if you have any specific questions

Tonality
It's going to look rough though for GTA IV right? Since it lacks 100hz? or is that Vertical Sync 50hz something else? it does mention this mode: 'Movie Plus visual precision Enjoy fast action with none of the judder you find on standard LCD TVs. Films and videos are shot at 24, 25 or 30 frames per second, but TVs use more frames. Conventional TVs insert two or three identical frames, but this causes judder with fast action. Movie Plus calculates the motion component of the incoming video signal and interpolates the action to create new frames without the judder effect.' Or is this marketing crap and not going to create a smooth gaming experience. One review I found through Google said this: 'However, the real test of the screen refresh rate comes in when you test the LA40R81BDX with games and that is when you realize that it does have some chinks in the armor. Though the overall gaming features are OK, the images do tend to look a bit rough on the edges and that makes it a bit difficult to enjoy a good gaming experience. Other than that, there are no other issues which I faced with the Samsung LA40R81BDX and I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a good LCD solution.' Sorry for all these questions but admittedly I'm not up with TV tech. Computers are more my area. ^ Can't see where I wrote 'to start with'. $1500-$2000 just being the budget I think realistic - it's only going in my bedroom after all. DruidB
Whoa... hold on... its a 40" 720p and your only 3-4 feet away? this would drive me nuts!... find somthing 1080p native resolution even if you have to drop down to 37" to fit the price range.. that way you wont see all the pixels as much.. 720p from 3-4ft is grainy on a 40" screen.. Psych
If you're sitting that close then 1080p is a must. Specially for the budget you have.

Well, 3-4 feet if I'm lying on my bed on my stomach in game-playing position. Fair point anyway about the size. I also have a comfortable leather desk chair I could play the game from a further distance if needed. Getting the game soon, just wish I had the TV now - whatever one I order it'd take a week to come from the warehouse. Oh well.
mecca
I bought the exact same TV for £580 about a month ago in preparation for GTA, and it's outstanding. Can't fault it. Enjoy!
