Im going to Play GTA IV For Hours Upon End

I just bought an Xbox360, for GTA 4 of course. I know im going to play this game for sometimes 8 hours straight, possibly more. Will my xbox overheat? And lose data, or end up breaking my Xbox? Is it worth investing in an intercooling system to keep the components inside cool?

I heard the 360's get very hot. Im just wondering if there is a timeframe for how long you should play your xbox and then let it sit and cool off before playing it again. Should I only play it for 5 hours max and then let them system cool off before playing for a few more hours?

I just want to take care of my system, Im worried about the longevity of it, and keep it in proper working order. Anyone have any tips on how to take care of the 360? Like all the do's and dont's.

Microsoft will not repair consoles that were connected to an intercooler. That means they are BAD for your console.

Why companies still make them, I don't know!

i know three people with the intercooler and they dont melt the sockets... they couldnt even be released if they did that cuz it could cause a house fire

Thanks for the advice. I was getting ready to go buy one. Now im not. Is there any other alternatives to keep the system from overheating?

Don't buy one.

I would just take it out and put it on a small stool/table/chair in an open space.

Keep the room cool.

Sorry for the bad advice

I just keep mine elevated on two slick surfaces that won't absorb a lot of heat with the bottom free to breathe and circulate and all the sides also. Plus, keep the fan on in the room you are in and (guessing you are an adult and don't need a parents permission) drop your thermostat a few degrees if its hot where you live. I played CoD4 when it first came out for 8 hours straight (had a broken leg and nothing else to do) and had not a single problem and that was a launch console.

i dont think u should worry, i was watching a live feed of a guy that got a legit copy of gta iv and he played it over 2days straight and there wasnt no problem.

Word on the street is that the intercoolers are made by sony to destroy the might 360.

He's actually right. I went to bestbuy.com and read their reviews for the intercoolers. 90% of the people have had problems with intercoolers. Definetly a bad investment. Im definetly not connecting anything non microsoft authentic to my 360.

lol, microsoft are the reason why you were going to get an intercooler. they made the 360, decided to put rings on it, f*cking idiots, and they have made it so it will overheat.

my god MS f*cked up something fierce. dont get the intercooler.

Pfft, don't buy an intercooler. My original 360's death was caused by a Nyko intercooler that I bought for it. Got the 3 RRoD. It's a piece of sh*t.

Get the intercooler STAND.

It doesn't not take away power from the 360 and still cools the system down.

yea they do... my friend had one and it f*cked up his....but they fix your xbox if it does for free ..so if you dont have a warranty from microsoft buy that piece of sh*t and make it melt that way you can get it fixed.

Use an existing fan or buy one, and point it at your console. Atleast your moneyll go to something useful come those summer days not gamin.

Pointing it right by your console's exit points would probably actually do more harm then good by disrupting the air flow patterns.

I left Dead Rising on overnight to do the 5 day achievement (it's not really 5 days) and it barely got hot. I left it on for over a day all together. I'll leave it at that.

And as obvious as this should be, make sure there's nothing on top of or right up against the console. Essentially, make sure it can "breathe". Make sure it's not in strong direct sunlight too - probably won't make a difference, but seeing as you're worried...

No more so than having it next to an open window if the settings are low.

No RROD for me ever again, and i have the intercooler, get it. Whoever said the intercooler melts the sockets is a PS3 Fanboy.

If you want continous RROD's then don't get the intercooler.

Seriously, unless you have faulty hardware the intercooler does nothing bad, my friend who told me to get an intercooler when my 360 RROD'd has had an intercooler when the xbox 360 first came out and he never had a problem at all.

Yea some people are lucky some aren't. And yes the intercooler has been known to melt the sockets, doesn't mean EVERY sing one does it. It just means there are some faulty ones that cause it. BUT the ones that usually cause those are the NIKO knockoff ones.

My brother-in-law and I both bought a 360 and the NIKO intercoolers for our 360s at the same time. His socket melt and mine was fine, but took it off just in case.

get the intercooler. And if you get RROD when Microsoft asks remember this... YOU DO NOT USE AN INTERCOOLER. In my experience the intercooles decreased the likelihood of RROD, but should you get RROD the intercooler "voids your warranty" and microsoft won't do sh*t. The solution is to get it and should you have problems lie to the bastards who made the faulty system that you dumped $300 on. I'm a proud xbox 360 owner btw cool.gif

no, xbox 360s can take 5 weeks then overheat and get the Red Ring Of Death. I had a intercooler but for some reason it increased my chance of getting RROD, I dont know, go online and do some research.
